Do you think schools will reopen soon?

So many articles about schools opening after Easter. What do you think? It makes me feel like my health as a teacher is not important. So many people are home and furloughed yet will send their children in

There's an article on the Sunday Times (just read it online) about schools opening in a few weeks. It talks of 'releasing the young first' but what about the people who have to look after the young to, during and from school?!!

The Times is really shit and often wrong for education reporting.

My head teacher has hinted in emails that our school will be open properly in June after a headteachers meeting end may/june. Were already open for key worker/vulnerable. Shes hinted a phased return will be the way and more key worker children first.... I'm not happy about it at all. Been told to continue the rota of days in school, lesson prep, online courses and rewriting our policies until beginning of June.
We have 2 young children who wont be back in until September as long as Dh can work at home as seems ridiculous to risk them before then.... I hate going to work now as it's such a risk.

Even if schools can reopen I think you will get a lot of localised school closures where there isn't sufficient staff to open. I imagine regional lockdowns related to the NHS provision in the area and the number of cases over the next 18 months.

This virus is not going away. Unless the government steps up testing and quarantine and contact tracing we're just going to have to wait for the vaccine. In the meantime the government will want people back at work so schools will be reopened. But that will effectively spread the virus so they may then have to close again if there is then (almost inevitable) a spike in cases.

Life isn't going back to normal for ages yet.

That link says the Children’s commissioner thinks it would be a good idea to reopen schools before the summer if the scientific evidence is there that it’s safe.

I think everyone thinks it’s a good idea to reopen schools once the scientific evidence shows it’s safe. Why is that even an article?

September if we are lucky for all
