It seems the BBC is stepping up as a public broadcaster to provide an education during lockdown. A TV channel, online lessons, resources, podcasts.

This has the potential to be a fantastic resource. Will the DfE start actually doing some coordinating? Centrally mandated lessons on TV could really help reach disadvantaged kids who don’t have access to the devices needed for what schools are offering. It could also save teachers a massive job in trying to create their own content.

Watch this space, I guess.

Year 6 DD found it eye rollingly patronising and I didn’t think there was any learning content at all. I hope parents aren’t left thinking that’s how we actually teach!
Oh well, something to do...

drspouse as far as I can work, out there's content to watch on iplayer for each year group and lessons including short videos, quizzes and printables on the BBC Bitesize website.

I may have missed it as the kids were noisy but I think Radio 4 completely ignored the existence of the Oak National Academy and gave a glowing review of their own content...

Anyone know what section David Attenborough is on? Ds will be delighted!

Abbccc · 22/04/2020 09:19

Does anyone know what time it comes on?

Try the red button?

There’s a webchat with the BBC head of education today if you’ve got any questions www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_live_events/3886107-Webchat-with-Helen-Foulkes-Head-of-BBC-Education-Wednesday-22-April-at-1pm

BBC now has a SEND section.

I wish the mindfulness bandwagon could be dropped a bit. There has been some expert research (which was on the bbc, radio 4) which said mindfulness isn't always for for kids.

Playing is mindful. And finding interesting things in the dirt. Or putting on a costume. Or picking and smelling some flowers. Collecting stones.

The way I am mindful is by looking at nature or colours I love. Never been able to do all the breathing and mind emptying stuff. And the kids at school roll around like seals.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 21:46

Being read a story is mindfulness for children too!

This is hopefully going to be an excellent resource. Credit to the BBC.
