What should staff me doing?

Is there info anywhere on what staff should be doing in school? Should we only be in if we are needed to look after the children or can we be called upon to tidy, sort work areas out, plan for future etc?

I’m wondering this as well. The national Education Union stated that headteachers shouldn’t require all staff in at the same time. But HT at my school is requiring us all in at the same time to do jobs and clean.

Whywhywhy1 · 23/03/2020 14:34

I just don’t get how that is helping with social distancing. Surely it should be a skeleton staff!

NASUWT has some good advice, and says teachers cannot be asked to clean the school.

Whywhywhy1 · 23/03/2020 14:39

Could you locate me to where those guidelines on the NASWUT website pls?

Skeleton staff-as few members in as possible

AnotherNC45 · 23/03/2020 14:40

It should be skeleton staff! I’m not due in until later this week as I’m part time, but as of now, still expected to come in on days I’m not rota’d. Are you in today, OP?

@ PhysaliaPhysalis Thank you. I worry that few headteachers have seen these guidelines yet!

Whywhywhy1 · 23/03/2020 14:46

Yes I am in today but feel that we have too many on the rota for the children. Basically more staff than children

NASUWT guidance for the PP who asked, sorry, was finishing up and driving home!

alwaysneedgin · 23/03/2020 15:53

Unless we're in and needed for skeleton staff then we're not allowed to be there to ensure minimum transmission

pepsipeckle · 23/03/2020 16:21

minimum staff in on a minimum 2 week rotation if not more. Staff should not be doing a 2.5 day rotation as a child could infect all staff in a week ! Everyone else should be at home !

Whywhywhy1 · 23/03/2020 17:41

What do you mean by a 2.5 week rotation? Sorry I have brain ache!

We have said only essential work. We only have a handful of students. I've sent home kitchen staff, the students will cook their own lunch as an activity, office staff are working from home. About one in four teaching/support staff in per day but I expect this to reduce once we find our rhythm.

I had very firm words with a staff member who was trying to argue clearing out her cupboard was essential work and therefore she needs to be in Grin

OxanaVorontsova · 23/03/2020 17:45

Skeleton staff, I was in today , not due back in for another 3 weeks, but obviously that might change

ffswhatnext · 23/03/2020 17:50

Local schools skeleton staff and mainly senior staff. Everyone is on rotation.
Not sure if this is impacting their wages. I'm not nosy enough to ask. Hopefully, it isn't, well unless it's a raise or bonus of some type.

Soontobe60 · 23/03/2020 17:54

Skeleton staff in mine today. Being reduced even further from tomorrow.
All staff have received an email with suggestions of tasks they could do at home including prep for September, end of year report writing, teacher assessments based on work completed so far, curriculum statements, website updates etc etc. I'm going to be doing a load of laminating for everyone! We are joined with our neighbour school and using their premises. Our school is shut, the Head and office manager are in for a couple of days to do essential stuff
.

SansaSnark · 23/03/2020 17:58

My school have said we are not allowed in for any purpose, unless we are supervising children, and we will run on minimum possible staffing levels (so not all staff rota'd may be required).

Planning etc should definitely be done remotely!

pepsipeckle · 23/03/2020 18:11

Whywhywhy. I meant a split week, full weeks better rather than staff in and out.

ffswhatnext · 23/03/2020 18:17

Funny someone mentioned staff suddenly being eager. Seems to be a bit of a theme going haha.
I'm hearing from both sides, and occasionally others will weigh in.
I'm so glad I haven't been booted out of whatsapp groups.
