Do we think anyone will look closely at them? Will the figures be released to Joe public?

I would really like to know if it’s 10%?

Re nurseries - impossible to work from home while looking after a one/two year old. Not impossible with (some) older kids... difficult, yes, but not impossible.

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 12:04

the email states they’re able to accommodate 1300 places

Shock Whaaat? How on earth can they safely distance that number of people in one setting?

SansaSnark · 25/03/2020 12:20

I haven't been rota'd to go in yet, but according to those who were, we had 20 of about 1200 (Secondary + MAT primaries) in, so well within the 10%.

I do think there will be some variance between schools, as primaries close to hospitals etc are more likely to have more key worker parents, but if a lot more than 10% of children are coming in, some conversations need to be had with parents!

NewYearNewJob123 · 25/03/2020 12:58

So maybe some MNetters were a teeny bit histrinoic in their predictions of widespread piss-taking leading to widespread deaths of children and teachers..

generalh · 25/03/2020 13:01

We moved to a hub and none of our pupils we had the past two days turned up! Waste of time for the member of staff drove the 33 miles to man our bit of it.

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 13:33

Or, maybe our perfectly reasonable and justified objections led to a widespread campaign of reminders to parents that it was only to be used in an emergency.
All schools had to reports all registrations for the scheme to the DfE, and there are as many as 2 millions children on the list. That would include, yes, quite a few piss-takers, but in the event they have thankfully been persuaded that it's not a good idea if avoidable.

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 13:35

We had around 60 (out of 450) on the list, for example, but today we have only 5 children on the premises.

KingscoteStaff · 25/03/2020 13:49

We had about 10% in, and a NEVERENDING stream of phone calls and knocks on the door demanding more worksheets for children at home. They all have 10 days worth of work and we are 2 days in!!!

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 14:07

demanding more worksheets for children at home
And what was your school's response?
Ours would have been, "sorry, no."

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 14:14

No pupils are in at our local high school, at least so the grapevine tells me.

NewYearNewJob123 · 25/03/2020 14:49

CallmeAngelina. You think bitching on MN created a nationwide campaign which resulted in the small numbers of parents actually using this childcare?

Cause they saw people bitching on MN? 😂

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 15:22

The mood on MN was clearly reflected in the wider "real" world too. The DfE have the figures. Many many more intended to use the service, leading to genuine alarm from providers. Fortunately, people saw sense and made other arrangements.

Luunaa · 25/03/2020 16:34

It's definitely less than anticipated which is a good thing. DS's middle sized primary had 30 in before lockdown and now has 6.

Letseatgrandma · 25/03/2020 16:42

I wonder if there is a better way to organise this. Most schools I know of around here have between 1-7 pupils.

For those pupils, we are using entire school sites, getting site staff opening up, using electricity and heating the school, kitchen staff preparing lunch and then a first aider, SLT member and teacher providing daycare. You need all those people to open a building and provide safe staffing should something go wrong, but it’s inefficient.

I completely disagree that schools should form together to create giant hubs-that is counter productive and would mix germs with so many households, but it seems daft to be using school sites for so few numbers.

I wonder if something could be set up instead in a room/demountable building/hall near the hospital-providing daycare that fitted in with staff shifts better.

Maybe too difficult to coordinate, I don’t know.

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 16:45

Agree it seems wasteful, for sure.
But as not all key workers are hospital-based, siting such a hub near one wouldn't help everyone. In many cases, their child's school is presumably easy to get to, if they've been doing it every day up til now.
I don't know what the answer is.

FlamingoAndJohn · 25/03/2020 16:48

We have had between 4 and 8 in out of 450.

fussychica · 25/03/2020 17:56

DS said 9 out of 1200 plus. Operating a rota, he's in for a day next week.

flouncymcflouncerson · 25/03/2020 18:47

@CallmeAngelina that’s over the county not just one hub. There seem to be 3 primary hubs, 3 secondary and 1 additional needs hub.

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 19:46

Ah sorry. I mis-read.

Effic · 25/03/2020 19:58

Before ‘lock down’ in our multi-academy trust we had over 50% in all but 1 schools and 70% in 1.
We had parents hurling abuse at staff when being turned down because they felt MacDonalds was ‘food distribution’ and thus key role.
After lockdown, numbers have halved and we are at about 20%- 30%.

XelaM · 25/03/2020 22:26

At my daughter's prep school in North London, there was 1 boy in the whole school on Monday and none on Tuesday. I was sad for the poor boy who was at school by himself the whole day

CallmeAngelina · 26/03/2020 09:34

We're down to 4 today.

BG2015 · 27/03/2020 13:35

We had 11 on Monday, dropping to 4. 3. 4 for the rest of the days and 1 today with 3 staff.

I know for a fact one of the children has an older brother whose friends with my son (both 16) so could easily be cared for at home.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 01/04/2020 11:38

7 out of a roll of around 200 yesterday. All but one are actually “vulnerable” rather than children of keyworkers.

Rosieposy4 · 04/04/2020 20:38

We are down to about a dozen from 2000
