What if you live with someone in a high risk category?

Husband is in high risk category and unable to practice social distancing in our home and nowhere else for him to stay. He is working from home indefinitely. Is is reasonable for me to request the same from my school? I am concerned about passing anything on to him. Am an LA so while I have offered to work from home and had has agreed to me self isolating for the next 14 days I don't know where I stand after that, or wether I will have to take unpaid leave for the next few months? Academy has released no guidance as yet for staff.

Check your union guidance- they are very clear on this. In my school if you live with someone in high risk categories you work from home and don’t come into school which is what the unions say. Oh and on normal pay.

I am actually concerned about a school staff member (it's my mum) she works in the office, and they have been told they need to be in but presume that union guidance wouldn't apply to her.

Is she not GMB? They are saying the same thing. There is also gov guidance if you search for it.
If they are shielding or live with someone who is then it’s imperative they stay at home and get paid!

At my school, they have have been fine with people at risk or with family members at risk not going in for the foreseeable future. You need to tell you head/SLT ASAP.

pipsm it actually does not say that in NASUWT guidance.

My head has told me I will not be expected in. In fact he told me to stay at home. Any reasonable head will do this.

Here is the crucial bit :
Where a teacher lives with someone who has vulnerable health conditions, or is aged 70 or above or is pregnant, the teacher should continue to attend work as directed by their employer.

I am actually surprised and disappointed with my union for this.

However, I really think most heads haven't read this guidance , given my school's decrees about marking!! So raise it anyway.

What is your DH's condition? If you don't mind saying.

I was really surprised by the union guidance!

We are not asking such staff members to come into work. We would only ask if was the very last option we had. Even then I’m not sure we would!

Yes, I felt a bit let down. But I think it is because they copied that directly from gov.uk advice.

I think it's at the heads discretion. Mine has told staff in same position to stay home, paid.

I am very lucky as I have been told I am able to WFH and no changes to contract/salary etc.
