Are you on a rota to childminder key workers’ children, in full time or teaching from home?

We are all in from Monday-seem to have a lot of key workers at our school!

I think the unions are onto this staff in school thing. Their take is that all staff should be at home apart from the ones looking after the vulnerable.

I’m vulnerable too, but no one seems to give a shit about the staff tbh

What will they do though?

Since the new key workers rules came out, we have got loads of parents who want their kids in. It’s not a skeleton operation any more. We are just running a slightly smaller school.

No social distancing-it’s worrying.

Look at their Twitter feed.

They think the key workers list is too long. And they think that teachers shouldn’t be going in unless they are looking after kids who are still in.

sakura06 · 20/03/2020 11:48

Thankfully my school changed their minds! Monday full staff to assess needs. Then volunteering for a rota, which I have done.

Frlrlrubert · 20/03/2020 12:09

Secondary:

We're all in on Monday, but possibly not all of us all day.

We've filled out a form about our health (I guess so they can risk assess who can come in on a rota going forwards).

W're closing at lunch today and then having a meeting - so maybe I'll know more then.

Parents have been asked to notify us is they think they are key workers before 9am on Monday and we will assess who qualifies for Tuesday. So Monday we'll be taking any child that turns up until we can sort out who should be there and who should be at home.

Today all the Year 11s are magically better and have come in to sign each other's shirts.

noblegiraffe · 20/03/2020 12:54

As far as I understand it, I’m on a rota to supervise kids but not at my school, which will be closed. That was before the bumper list of key workers was released though so I don’t know if there’ll be a rethink.

Meeting after school today. Haven’t been told to be in on Monday so I’m assuming SLT will be supervising Keyworker Comp until things are more settled, then I’ll be called up.

No idea about the Easter holidays, but tbh the weeks are all going to merge anyway so it officially being a holiday won’t make much difference.

wonderstuff · 20/03/2020 13:02

Secondary mainstream. We have been asked to volunteer to be on a rota, I've volunteered but I'm not on the rota. All other staff free to work from home. I'm going in on Monday as I have some students who have SEN but not an EHCP and no computer access so I'm going to make up some packs for them. We are expecting about 75 out of 1200 pupils in on Monday. Think our leadership team have handled it all brilliantly tbh. I am wondering if I'm not needed at my school whether I may be needed elsewhere - local special schools for example, I imagine that the LEA will put a call out if it becomes necessary.
We're confining everyone to certain parts of the school and expecting to be able to deep clean others which will be out of bounds until we reopen properly.

Khara · 20/03/2020 13:02

Primary ta - we will have 50% of kids in and all the staff who are still standing

wonderstuff · 20/03/2020 13:03

Oh yes and we're allowing year 11 shirt signing this afternoon and moved the leavers prom to September.

ps1991 · 20/03/2020 13:06

Secondary, all staff in as usual monday/tuesday. We don't know how many children we are expecting. I don't work either of those days usually, so i will just have to see what wednesday will bring. The school is still planning to run a timetabled day with two classes for each year group. The school is opening a creche for children of staff aged 0-11

Rainbowunicat · 20/03/2020 13:35

I'm at a special school so all our kids are vulnerable. We're opening part time. At the moment we're all expecting to be in for mornings every day, but the head will reassess when we're clear on numbers.
We've not got any children of key workers though, it's about safeguarding the vulnerable rather than childcare.

Luunaa · 20/03/2020 13:45

Secondary SEN. We're staying open and expect about 70% to be in. High levels of staff absence means we're closed for the next two weeks then reopening during the holidays.

Nuffaluff · 20/03/2020 13:53

My Headteacher is amazing.
She’s set up a rota.
I am part time. I’ll be going in on Tuesday and working from home on Monday and Wednesday. I’ll be setting and marking work.
Realistically, I’ll also be doing some work on my ‘days off’ as they’ll just be too much to do at work and I have my own kids to look after too. (DH also key worker in NHS).

MrsZola · 20/03/2020 21:30

Federation here, 2 primaries. All staff who can be in working on one site - 2 teams week on, week off rota basis. Everyone else working from home. Only accepting key workers children, those with EHCPs, and vunerable children, about 40 in total. Been told that when things are clearer we'll probably divide the 2 teams down even further. No pressure to work if we had children to look after or vunerable family members in the household.

DoubleAction · 20/03/2020 21:43

Today changed half a dozen times after 3pm yesterday. Who knows what happens on Mon?

mamaduckbone · 20/03/2020 21:56

Small rural primary - we're only expecting around 6 children and we're providing packed lunches to free school meals children.
We're all in on Monday to see how the land lies then there will be a rota. We're not popular with our MAT because whilst we still have a healthy enough staff team we want to keep our germs to ourselves and only have our own pupils.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 20/03/2020 22:08

We have a rota for the next 2 weeks. One member of staff per year group. Expecting about 35 kids in total (secondary). I've volunteered for 2 afternoons as I want to help out (plus 4 different walls to look at to my living room) but it will be interesting to see how many actually turn up next week.

Imok · 20/03/2020 22:15

@Everytimeref
I'm a TA in a MAT and I am also in the vulnerable category. We've been told, in writing, that if we are in the vulnerable group and therefore shouldn't be in work, we will be paid our normal pay for the time we are off. They have asked us to work from home and have a lust of suggested tasks, depending on whether you are support staff or teaching staff.

Tailrunner · 20/03/2020 22:18

We are in 1 day every 2-3 weeks on a rota but that could change once we see how many kids actually come in.

We are an iPad school so all pupils have their own iPads and we have confirmed all have internet access at home. We are setting classwork online following the usual timetable, taking registers to ensure pupils are interacting with the work and marking/setting homework according to usual school rules. I'm not sure how it's going to work in reality but that's the plan.

FlamingoAndJohn · 20/03/2020 22:21

No idea yet how many children we will have in.
5 members of staff in a day which works out as 2 days across the next 4 weeks.
The school that are expecting all staff in don’t seem to get concept of social distancing.

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 22:26

This 'vulnerable' thing is confusing. Ds has an EHCP and so is classed that way. However dd is in an 'at risk' group for Coronavirus and so no way am i sending ds in to play with a bunch of kids whose parents are on the frontlines.

Also i have heard that ASD can make symptoms more severe anyway. Not sure if that's true.

DoubleAction · 20/03/2020 23:14

Children with an EHCP are offered the opportunity to go to school if you can't safely care for them at home. There is no obligation to send them.

triptrapdollydumpling · 20/03/2020 23:26

Are your schools opening on the Easter Bank Holidays?

123fushia · 20/03/2020 23:36

Large primary school - all teachers and TA’s on a 1 day timetable. Team of 8 staff to cover each day with one member of SLT and a first aider in each team. Expected to change each week but we are all set for Monday. Our head and cluster heads are remarkably efficient. ( not MAT)

GiantRedPanda · 20/03/2020 23:48

We're waiting to see what the demand is. And what staffing levels we have. We have lots of sick / self isolating household / vulnerable and a frustrating number of "I'm a key worker and DH can't possibly interrupt his super important Man Job to supervise his secondary age kids whilst wfh". Good will is being sapped because staff are likely to be asked to childmind unnecessarily while undermining the suppression strategy and putting their own health at risk. And being moaned at because "Our Jonny isn't getting teacher supervision but his friend James is, just because both of James' parents are ICU staff while we didn't make the key worker list and it's soooooo unfair".
