What do you think of this?

Just your opinion please, as I'm not sure what to think or if this is the norm. I work for a multi-academy trust.

All staff have been told that they have to go in to work everyday, regardless of the fact that we will have less than 30 students in total (normal numbers 1000 ish). We will apparently plan work for next year etc.

My DS's school won't keep him because both parents aren't key workers (just me), but my trust are willing to let him go to one of their primaries instead. I feel strange about sending him to an unfamiliar environment (he is in Year 1), but I appreciate that we are living in unprecedented times.

Also, little bit of a way off; but Good Friday? Easter Monday? I we are working through the holidays will we be expected to be in then too?

Since the Government has asked everyone to work from home who can, to practise social distancing and to avoid contact as much as possible, I think it is awful that teaching staff are being asked to go into school regardless of need. Where is the safeguarding of their staff?

At my school we've drawn up a rota with adequate staff needed each day to cover the numbers of key worker and vulnerable children. Everyone else will be working from home teaching online lessons and responding to children/parents, writing reports and working on planning, resourcing and curriculum development. We can collaborate using various real-time video/messaging tech if necessary. It is irresponsible to demand someone's presence in school, making them travel on public transport and putting their families more at risk than is needed. I will happily be there as much as I'm needed caring for children through Easter holidays and beyond, but I would be very cross at being asked to sit by myself in an empty classroom when I could do exactly the same work at home.

@FuckIngMaxandhisImportance I think during the holiday we we'll have a rota for the few children we do have in. I don't know about the bank holidays, presumably they'll be treated like Saturday and Sunday.

The toddler childcare conundrum is simple. Take them into school, let them pull down the displays, holler all day and generally wreck the joint. You’ll be on a working home directive before you know it Wink

We have to go in.
Nursery are not accepting my youngest 2, but are asking for full fees.
My eldest can't go to school (Year 1)
My dh is working from home.
Obviously he can't get much done with a 6, 4 and 2 year okd at home.
But if I stay home I am worried I will be unpaid, taking unpaid dependents leave.

Hairydogmummy · 20/03/2020 07:07

We've been told we're all in on Monday too. Large mainstream secondary.

WhyNotMe40 · 20/03/2020 09:39

@Poetryinaction why can't your children go to nursery/school. I would ask again as there is a new clarification on the gov.uk website just this morning that one keyworker parent is sufficient and that teachers are keyworkers

I could cry at the impact these decisions are going to have on the spread of the virus. It is sheer lunacy to ask all staff to attend. Schools should be operating on skeleton staff only and everyone else should be at home. It isn't noble, it isn't selfless, it isn't "thinking of the children" - every single person who does not HAVE to be out should be at home. We are sleepwalking into disaster with these stupid, thoughtless choices.

DoubleAction · 20/03/2020 09:47

I think schools are saying all staff in now because they don't know what they are facing. Staff with specific issues around childcare and vulnerabilties should discuss those. Once we get into next week and know how many students we have, then rotas can be set up.

Atm, we're planning for the next 20 min, not next week!

The unions are onto this. Just looked at NEU on Twitter

Sounds like your head is going to get into trouble!

We're all in on Mon but then playing it by ear (2 form primary)

We anticipated around 50 children but since the guidance yesterday, this could be more like 150!!!!!!

Unfortunately, some of our parents WANT their kids to come to school. That they'll be OK as they can now argue that they are key workers (even if there is someone to take care of the child at home). They don't seem to grasp that it is much safer to keep them at home and that we really are a last resort. Sad
