Job interview feedback?

I have gone for two jobs now one of them being my placement school. My lessons and interview all go really well they said in my interview today 'excellent answer' when I answered things and they were smiling a lot and engaged. Then I didn't get it and they said I couldn't have done any more I have been excellent everything was great but the other person had more to offer.

What am I doing wrong? I know you can't answer specifically but I've been told twice now that I'm an amazing teacher, my interview was great and I couldn't have done anymore and then I still don't end up getting it even when it's my placement school.

Hi OP,

I'm sorry to hear that. Could you ask the schools for honest feedback specifically why the one applicant had more to offer.

I would say don't take it too personally even though it is difficult to accept at the moment the other applicants maybe had more experience in certain areas they were looking for.
The right job is waiting for you, don't lose faith!

Is It an experienced teacher who has got the post, even if they’re only one year into their career? It may be that the schools have had some bad experiences with NQTs and despite your good performance they have chosen the less risky candidate. Just a thought.

No we were all trainees so that makes it worse because I don't know how else I could have improved. They said it was nothing I could change. Thankyou both.

I think you have to take the feedback as it is meant. You're doing everything right and the right job for you will be along soon.

As frustrating as it is, from what you've described it seems as if they had two (or more) really strong candidates and it came down to something trivial. Maybe the other person had slightly more experience in the year group or plays a sport that the school is strong in etc

Two jobs isn't that many in the grand scheme of things (although I know you will have put a lot of work into it). Keep applying and if you are consistently in the top choices, you will get something!
