If I were to be signed off from work, does the headteacher/Admin need to know the details?
I'm currently suffering with horrendous anxiety and depression, some work related, mostly personal, I'm considering asking my GP to sign me off when I go to ask for anti-depressants again (I was on them before when I was like this) but I don't want everyone to know why I'm off...

It will state the reason on your sick note. They can only help you if they know the reason and will want to send you to OH.

Hi there, sorry to hear you are suffering. You will need to provide a GP's sicknote to be signed off.It would be very general and not detail medication or treatment information. It would say anxiety /stress possibly whether it was work related or personal or a mixture. You shouldn't feel embarrassed or ashamed I know it's cringey but it is ok to be unwell. Good luck I hope you fe l better soon.

I was signed off in 2018 for anxiety and depression. I had to give a sick note to my head and my school business manager needed to see it too. For confidentiality reasons, they couldn’t share the details with anyone else but I told people. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.

For the sake of change, it’s important that your SLT know how you’re feeling. If they don’t, nothing will change when/if you go back.

Any experienced Head/SLT will be quite used to getting sick notes for anxiety/depression. If you feel you need time off and your GP is happy to give you a sick note, then just do it.

You won’t be signed off and the HT given no reason, no.

Thank you all.

It's not something I am ashamed of per se, but I think a lot of people just don't understand MH issues still and I'm worried about being judged when I come back

I had some really stupid questions. Someone actually told me it was well-timed because I had a big event coming up. It wasn’t an event I’d had even a minute of time to think about because I was so stressed with work. I asked her if she’d say that if I’d broken my leg. It was horrendously timed.

This is also something I am worried about.
I feel like I need to start anti-depressants and things are so bad at the moment, I feel I need the time off work while they kick in (last time they took a couple of weeks before they started to work)
But I don't want to spend two weeks holed up at home, but if I am seen out, will people assume I am lying? (anxiety makes this worse too!)
