Coronavirus

A member of staff in the school I work at is travelling to two of the Gov.uk coronavirus ‘high risk’ areas.
I and several other members of staff are concerned about when we return after half term. They have spoken to SLT and have just been told not to go into the staff room for a bit. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I wouldn’t expect the person to cancel their holiday, it is their choice to travel to those areas but I am concerned about the children, staff and their families upon their return.
Do you think I am being unreasonable for some precautions to be taken? 😷

What’s the official government advice?

PurpleDaisies · 15/02/2020 11:52

www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3v-swr7T5wIVirHtCh08fg_1EAAYASAAEgJoLvD_BwE

This might be helpful. Depending on where they’ve been, they might need to self isolate or self isolate if they develop symptoms of cough or fever or shortness of breath.

It says...
If you have returned to the UK from any of these areas in the last 14 days and develop symptoms of cough or fever or shortness of breath, you should immediately:
stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the country.

Maybe I’m overreacting. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, but it doesn’t say you need to isolate yourself until that happens (unless you’ve been to Wuhan or Hubei).

YouthClub · 15/02/2020 12:19

I know and I’m sure everything will be fine but it is just a bit of a worry. 🥴

I think it is interesting that the two labour politicians who were at an event in London where one of the 200 participants present subsequently developed coronavirus, chose to self isolate despite having no symptoms.

They both said this was due to the fact that had jobs where they interacted with lots of people.

It did leave me thinking what if everyone does this? And also, perhaps they were trying to set an example?
