Why doesn't anyone ever say thank you?

... to the reliable ones, the ones who pick up all the flak, who pick up the pieces when things are falling apart? The ones who meet all the deadlines and work as hard as they can, nay harder?
By this, I don't obviously mean parents and students, who, oddly enough, say thank you rather more than one's fellow teachers?

Does an SLT contract ban this?

Sorry for outburst but feeling a bit under appreciated!

I am sure if we all stopped being so helpful and amenable we would very quickly be told off!

Is this a general workplace thing, or are teachers and especially teacher senior managers just really bad at this soft skill? Are the wrong leaders actually getting promoted?

I agree with wanting some recognition for being a plodder. When we have had staff go off with stress, I’ve had my timetable rearranged to pick up their exam classes and I’ve had to set cover work for other classes. When people have quit at Easter, I’ve lost some of my gained time to teach their timetable.

And I’ve had to put up with parental complaints when they are inevitably unsettled by this, because I’m the teacher that’s still there.

No recognition for being reliable from SLT though.

@GreenTulips you will see from my post I also recognised the students who get overlooked in addition to the staff overlooked. Not fair in both cases.

At my school drama staff (ie me) get absolutely no thanks for shows, despite them taking 100s of hours work over and above my actual job. I've been told I need to 'sell myself' more.....
