I am sinking fast with utterly crappy behaviour management and, while I love many aspects of the job, just can’t cope with disengaged classes, (secondary.) I’m looking for FE roles/selective schools, but would like to know what else is out there that uses a teaching qualification?

If you are close to London there are lots of education research jobs and museum jobs. Also film examiners. Sadly, not so easy in provincial areas.

I know of an ex teacher who started working in the company secretariat department of huge bank.

Civil service is another option for teachers.

I quit teaching 2 years ago and now run my own business as a tutor. I also write educational materials and teach online in the day times.

However, being self employed brings its own stresses and I'm not sure I'd have done this if I was the sole earner for example. Overall, I match what I was earning on a 4 day a week, upper scale salary. But it's not a monthly salary and I don't get paid holidays or sick leave or a pension.

I went back into industry, whence I came. The standard answers get trotted out every time this question is asked: civil service, publishing, museums etc. Publishing, in particular, is a tough nut to crack.
Always helpful to know what you trained in, what's your subject and if you would be willing to retrain...?

Have a look at vacancies in children's charities. If they're involved in delivering presentations in schools they often want teaching experience.

Airline cabin crew? I know of one ex teacher who worked for EasyJet and now works for Emirates in Dubai. Another worked for BA before doing a PGCE and is now back at BA as a cabin manager.

Train conductor for GWR.

RAF Personnel Training Officer and Royal Navy Training Management Officer.
