Mid day supervisor

I work as a mid day supervisor in a primary school, only been there a few months. I also help out in Reception. I found out today there is a Christmas drinks night out at the end of term but none of us are invited? Is that normal?

In all the schools I 've worked at, the MDSs were overwhelmingly parents of current pupils. That makes it very difficult for teachers to go out to their party and let their hair down. That's why they aren't invited. Remember it isn't a 'Christmas do' put on by the company - it is a group of colleagues arranging a night out.
Who wants to pay to go on a night out to feel they are being 'judged' by the parents of those they teach ?
There's enough 'judging' and 'criticising' of teachers as it is.

Sorry for late response.

None of the MDS are parents, but some of them have been there for years, one of them 10, another 15.

Last i heard was us all meeting for lunch the Thursday we finished but I was unable to do that as had to pick up my own kids as they finished early.

I just feel like we are the bottom of the rung and wish it wasn't so.
I wonder if Ofsted care what we think?

Yep. Schools are different from companies. For starters the school doesn't pay, nor does it arrange anything. The staff pay their own way and make their own arrangements. And depending on the size of the school, each department might have its own party, or it might be one event for everyone.

My school had so many TAs (five or six times as many as teachers) that the Christmas do ended up being dominated by TAs and dinner and site staff, and few teachers went.

There are too many variables between schools, to say how it should be done. Either way, OFSTED couldn't care less! It's bizarre to think they care about staff social life outside work! They only care about the kids' school experience.

Seriously ?
You honestly think OFSTED would be interested in the social lives of staff ??? Hmm

Of course not, I was being ironic! Grin
