How do we all feel going ahead-£10m spare to go on Ofsted-making it longer and more rigorous?!

The results have confirmed to me that after 21 years in teaching I need to get out. This will give me the push I need. I just can't bear it. More rigorous Ofsted will push people out. Who needs the stress of it all...

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 13/12/2019 07:39

Its scary.

fedup21 · 13/12/2019 07:41

I can see this pushing a lot of people over the edge and out. Then what?

Will it be made law that anyone can teach-teaching qualification or degree or not in any school (not just academies) just to get warm bodies in?

It’s pointless saying NQTs can have £30k if the job is so hideous nobody stays.

I doubt much will happen with anything until the 'Get Brexit Done'.

Then the shitstorm.

I notice in my school an increasing reliance on schemes. I think this an attack on the professionalism of teachers. Schools will cease to value experienced, well-trained teachers and replace them with people who can just take the scheme off the shelf and deliver it.

noblegiraffe · 13/12/2019 21:11

It won’t happen. Nothing will happen in education. Brexit is the priority.

They seconded all the DfE people to work on it last time because education had its moment under Gove.
Hopefully the extra pay will come though, recruitment is a really pressing issue so chucking money at it should be seen as an easy quick fix.

They talked about putting NQTs up to £30k, but did they say how that would affect everybody else? what about MPs2/3/6? What about us old gimmers on UPS??

It's funny, you know. Whenever I argued about Lab policies with anyone who voted the other way,(or with a Tory candidate) they would always say ' lovely, but where is the money coming from for Labour's promises?) (Tax! I Cried!) but they could not answer when I asked the same about Tory policies.

No one knows....

fedup21 · 16/12/2019 11:53

I was hopefully there for a while that things might get better. Teaching under Labour was better-the primary curriculum seemed to be heading in slightly more sensible skills-based direction, but since about 2010 it’s been bloody shit-Gove mainly to blame.

I am worried about handing over more powers to Ofsted and am worried by what other changes will come. I hope in a way that Brexit is a priority, but we still desperately need a cash injection.

I’m pleased that we won’t have to fanny around rethinking assessment, targets, progress etc as they scrap SATs. I’ve only really just got my head around the new SATs and progress 8. Obviously I’m not pleased that the Tories are still in charge but I’m thinking of silver linings.

I don’t think Ofsted will be reformed any time soon, that wasn’t even in their manifesto.

Wonder if Gav will get reshuffled. What. If. We. Get. Gove. Back.

Surely not even Johnson would be that cruel??

Gav is still in till at least Feb. With a wife who used to be a teacher they probably consider him massively qualified for the role (did anyone even see him during the election?)

Nick Gibb is still Schools Minister. I think he would have been even if Labour had won. No one can remember a time before Nick Gibb.

BackforGood · 19/12/2019 00:37

I'm going to presume it was just another made up lie.
