Back to teaching

I'm in the process of accepting a teaching job in a school. I've been out of teaching for years (travelling/sahm) but I'm just wondering if there's anything I need to do - reregister? Etc. Also would you expect to go back in at same M point or drop down due to the years out of teaching?
Thanks

If you are teaching a shortage subject you can pretty much dictate your terms! Definitely don’t drop down the pay scale.

Where do you want to reregister?

Don’t forget to join a union!

Ok thanks, I'm primary and its SEN school.

Don’t expect to drop down the pay scale. A gap doesn’t eradicate your experience.

Thank you for that- just wanted to check.

I think it's more than likely you'll have to be flexible with pay. I returned some time ago and I had to drop down. Schools round my way are emplying nqt's and unqualifieds almost exclusively due to cost.

Can I ask what you dropped down to/from? I've asked them today so just awaiting a response.

You would almost certainly lose your pay around here. My friend was on UPS3 for years, had a couple of years out trying something else and then had to take M4 to get back into it.

Schools (maybe just here) have no money and want NQTs or even HLTAs.

I was on UPS2, left mainstream for just over a year and was offered M4. Managed to negociate up to M5. You may well end up on less.
