Anyone else praying to get through this week? On my knees

I could type it all out but I think it can be summed up quite neatly by

  • SMT
  • Nativity

I feel if I can make it to Friday, I can photocopy 30 Christmas workbooks, stick on a film and gibber in a corner.

Have you only got a week left? Still two full weeks here. I've decided I'm going to get through them by seriously lowering my standards and by actually having some sort of social life at least twice each week, so that I can't just spend every evening working. If nobody will die as a result of me not doing something, I'm not doing it.

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 08/12/2019 08:03

I'm breaking up for Christmas soon too but I still have to do my job the same as I do every other day of the year...

Not a teacher btw.

PennyGold · 08/12/2019 08:04

@VincentVanGoughandhisear you've clearly never had to organise/ do a Nativity...

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 08/12/2019 08:04

Our kids might was well break up now if that's all teachers are going to do for the next two weeks!!

fattt · 08/12/2019 08:05

not a teacher btw

Ya don’t say

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 08/12/2019 08:05
Hmm
VincentVanGoughandhisear · 08/12/2019 08:06

You win. I'm very sorry that you have to do your job and get paid for it .

ballsdeep · 08/12/2019 08:08

Vincent I would love to see you in a classroom. Organising a nativity, Christmas activities, 30 plus cards and decorations, all the while keeping 30 plus very excited children in check 😂 jog on.

WellErrr · 08/12/2019 08:08

Really!? I’ve got two weeks left too, but I’m still doing my job. And I don’t get half terms off in my job either....

Crappy attitudes tbh.

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2019 08:10

Please note this is staffroom not AIBU.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/12/2019 08:10

I'm a bloody good teacher btw and the students in my classes will be learning to the last minute. I just will be doing things slightly differently to save my sanity and try to keep them as calm as possible as the end of term approaches, so do pop off with your, 'Lordie, think of the children' nonsense.

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 08/12/2019 08:11

@ballsdeep

I'm glad that you don't teach my children.
You are not the only one to have to organise, entertain and coordinate.

You are in the wrong job if that is your attitude. I appreciate teaching staff 100% and my children love their school.

Don't post on a public forum of you don't want other people to have an opinion.

I wish you a Merry Christmas 🎄

EarlyMorningCoffee · 08/12/2019 08:13

Oh go away.

No, two weeks for us too. Next week can be more relaxed though, this one coming will be the killer.

ballsdeep · 08/12/2019 08:14

@vincent

Can't help but laugh.

You too 😁🙄🎄🎄

HoorahHilda · 08/12/2019 08:14

This is staffroom, not AIBU.You are clearly in the wrong topic section.

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2019 08:14

Its' staffroom : a place for teachers to chat with each other. Do you go on Scotsnet or Academics Corner and tell them what to think and how to behave too?

unless I am missing some clever pun, it's Gogh

GreyGardens88 · 08/12/2019 08:19

@vincent don't you know no one else is allowed to have stressful jobs

IggyAce · 08/12/2019 08:20

I work as support in a school and after last week (two kids with behavioural issues kicked off) we were on our knees, but tomorrow is a new week and we only have 9 working days to go. I keep saying we can do this, that’s going to be mantra for the next week, the 4 days the following week will be a doddle.

Justasecondnow · 08/12/2019 08:21

Well an alternative option as a non teacher and kids in reception..... It looks impossible this time of year, and I personally massively appreciate my child’s teachers.. I mean they’ve taught her to read pretty much in these first two terms. So I would not complain at a Christmas film, and a just about holding it together teacher.

GertrudeCB · 08/12/2019 08:26

Not a teacher, work in education related field and have friends and relatives who are teachers, both primary and secondary - to all teachers from me WineBrewCakeCakeFlowers.

Teachermaths · 08/12/2019 08:26

Vincent stop being a twat!

This is the worst 2 weeks of the year for teachers. Primary is full of nativity stress and Secondary usually have mocks. This is at the end of the longest term. Going to and from work in the dark is depressing. You barely see sunlight all day. The kids are a combination of knackered and excited for Christmas. The staff are exhausted (many have their own children too).

Being in school at this time of year is also wonderful to see genuine human kindness.

Fwiw I'm in the keep lessons as normal as long as possible camp. Tends to keep a lid on things.

soccerbabe · 08/12/2019 08:28

non teacher here - first term of year is just completely knackering all round, not helped by dark nights, seasons of colds/bugs etc. Enjoy your Xmas break Wine![tea]Cake

BrotherlyLove · 08/12/2019 08:29

Xmas Grin

wherethewildthingis · 08/12/2019 08:29

The thing is, this is staffroom, but to my knowledge there are no other groups of professionals routinely complaining about their job on mumsnet. I'm sure teaching is difficult and stressful, as are many other jobs. I am also a public sector worker and would be very conscious of complaining publically about my job, especially in an area where those who use the service are going to see it.
For my part, I am a social work manager in a child protection team. We are exceptionally busy at this time of year and it is extremely stressful. So comments like "if no one is going to die if I don't do it, I'm not doing it" and complaints about running a nativity do rankle. Because yes, if we don't do aspects of our job, someone may well die.
And I would imagine A and E nurses have things considerably more difficult than we do.
Teaching is not the only stressful job where you have to work over your hours. However it is the only job where I regularly see and hear people complaining about it.

Invisimamma · 08/12/2019 08:32

I don't work in a school either but we do slow down nearer Xmas, everything a bit more relaxed and nobody works quite as hard as they do the rest of the year. I am struggling to keep up with all the Xmas school stuff for my own DC school with nativity, concert, carol singing, class parties, panto trip, school disco, turkey lunch day etc....

THANK YOU to the teachers and staff who are organising all of this whilst also trying to teach and keep classes of excitable kids under control. I certainly couldnt do it. Please stick on ELF, hand out some colouring in sheets and play the Xmas tunes in class, do what you need to do to get through to end of term. Merry Christmas, it's been a long term!
