Tutors for primary kids.

Hi.

I'm wondering what school teachers think about the use of tutors for primary age kids.

I have a tutor for my 8yr old as we were having problems with her school. I asked her teacher if she could give me a
List of the work they have covered so far and while she didn't refuse she isn't giving us the info either.

I have crossed paths with her previously and so I don't want to antagonise her. The tutor thinks many school teachers do not agree with the use of tutors. Is this true?
Thanks

Personally as both a tutor and ex Primary school headteacher, I think it depends very much on the school/teacher.
Some of my parents tell the school staff and sometimes I've received information from the class teacher as a result either directly or via the family. Others prefer not to tell the school.
I teach a number of pupils from a local school and they give me access to a classroom for my lesson prior to school in the mornings plus I've met with staff to discuss children (obviously with parents permission) however this is quite unusual but extremely beneficial for the children as we all work together.

I was a primary school teacher for 17 years and now run my own tuition business. I sometimes get given copies of reports of class newsletters by parents but generally I assess the child and teach to fill gaps. I'd never expect a list from the class teacher, they simply don't have time to do this on top of everything else.

The teacher probably doesn't care if you tutor or not, but they don't want to spend their own time making you lists. Wait until parents evening and ask what your child's targets are as this will be really useful for your tutor (although if they are any good at their job and have got to know your child they will know what they are anyway).
