That’s not right, surely?

T0rt0ise

The head can be as pissed off as they like, but as long as the OP (or any teacher) has abided by the rules then they have no cause for complaint. Courtesy or not.

October 31st (unless your contract states otherwise but most academies abide by STPCD). Get your union involved.

LolaSmiles · 30/10/2019 21:02

TBH handing in notice on the 31st of October is shitty for any school as they have no chance of replacing you with someone that is currently teaching, we were always advised (an I always advise my staff) that at least two weeks before the end of term is common courtesy.

It's not shitty at all.
There's 3 resignation dates and people are more than entitled to apply for jobs up until their resignation date.

You want 2 weeks notice, but given its a chain of recruitment someone ends up at the end.

Heads have no grounds to be awkward about it.

A 31 Oct / 28 Feb / 31 May resignation which comes out of a clear blue sky is pretty shit tbh, but they are vanishingly rare as anyone who’s leaving with a job to go to will have been out on interview and the HT will therefore be anticipating their departure. The staff who resign on these dates with nothing to go to and no warning tend to be the people who have no more fucks to give, but it doesn’t show much regard for the life of the school which will have to continue after they have gone.

It’s sorted - my HT made a mistake.

Re it being a shitty thing to do - I had an interview mid October but I didn’t actually get the chance to speak to HT before we broke up for half term. I would never deliberately cause trouble for a school but by the same token I have a mortgage and a family to provide for and I have to consider this. The new job is better paid and closer to home.

Glad it’s sorted and well done on getting a better job all round.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 31/10/2019 10:09

Glad it’s sorted, OP.

Great news that it’s sorted OP.
