Maternity gift

Hi all

Our school secretary is going off on maternity very soon, she is a really nice woman, would do anything to help and I would really like to get her something.

Our school is very very large and I would like to get her/baby something but feel as a whole school staff we should. (We have a voluntary fund for teaching staff but nothing for non teaching)

So how would you all suggest I go about this? I am not a HOY or VP or a HOD, should I suggest it to the VP and then work from there or should I go to her manager and ask what they have planned?

Also any suggestions of what to get would be amazing ( I am clueless)

I've always asked people to buy small items and made a hamper in a nice basket.

As the PP says a hamper of small gifts always seems to go down well. Having received one myself I really appreciated it.
We 'hide' the items in a classroom cupboard- generally that which belongs to the organiser.

Thank you to both posters, I hadn't thought of a hamper and will send out an email asking if staff wish to leave something they can

Just out of interest really but why is there the staff divide? By voluntary fund I assume you mean saving for presents?

8weekstogoHohoho · 24/10/2019 17:13

At the start of year there's an email that goes out for staff to contribute for a staff kitty that would cover births, marriages, people leaving etc but (I have asked) it seems that this is only contributed to by Teaching staff. I'm not aware of non teaching staff having their own kitty but I will ask.

On reflection this is something that I could suggest to the person who manages the staff fund that it should be mentioned to non teaching staff that it is there if they want to contribute.

If that means that regularly teaching staff don't mark the significant events for other staff I think you are so doing the right thing by sorting it out so that everyone's is marked.
