School advertising for unqualified teacher to do the job of qualified teacher on less pay

www.educationweekjobs.co.uk/jobs/9135846/unqualified-teacher.asp

Everything about this job advert and job description says ‘we have the same expectations of you as a qualified teacher but we’ll be paying you less’.

Are they going to front up to parents and say ‘actually we’ve deliberately hired a TA to teach your child’s class for the rest of the year, hope that’s ok.’?

I’d be horrified if this were my kids’ school. It’s a short term contract too so no suggestion that they are ‘training them up’, like some other adverts for unqualified teachers suggest.

That’s awful.

TimeforanotherChange · 19/10/2019 17:45

No hint of irony whatsoever in their advert...

*See what it means to be part of the David Ross Education trust from our children and parents here.

Providing our young people access to a world-class education and enrichment experiences is what drives us. *

The fact that it's part of 'The David Ross Education Trust' says it all. Why being the co-founder of Carphone Warehouse qualifies you in any way, shape or form to interfere in education has always stumped me.

Is it a HLTA post ? It mentions it further down. Are they looking for a TA to take on a teaching post ? It's bloody ridiculous

cabbageking · 19/10/2019 18:00

It is a HLTA post

noblegiraffe · 19/10/2019 18:08

How can it be an HLTA post when it says ‘Post Title: unqualified teacher’ and gives access to the Teacher’s Pension Scheme?

It’s a teaching post, not a TA post.

OP posts:

It reads like they're expecting a HLTA to take on full teaching responsibilities

itsgettingweird · 19/10/2019 18:15

The thing that worries me is the lack of hours stipulated.

The job role isnt unusual for an HLTA. We do have to do some planning and assessing but under teacher guidance and with them. I plan and deliver lessons for a subject speciality I have.

However for almost equal pay i only work 31.25 hours a week!

noblegiraffe · 19/10/2019 18:45

Weird. On the trust website they’re advertising for a TA. www.jobtrain.co.uk/dret/displayjob.aspx?jobid=1265
On the government website they’re advertising for a KS2 teacher. teaching-vacancies.service.gov.uk/jobs/class-teacher-key-stage-2-abbey-cofe-academy
On Edweek an unqualified teacher.

Different sites, different jobs Confused

They’ll take anyone “motivated” to do the job. Says it all, really. Avoid.

GrimalkinsCrone · 19/10/2019 19:20

Possibly suitable for a teacher who qualified abroad, not recognised in UK and wants experience? But yes, factory-farmed education, here we come!
