Finding it hard to work with NQT- please help

We're both in Y3. She's finding everything difficult but she doesn't come to me for help. I'm not her mentor so I can understand that and I don't want to undermine her. She isn't very approachable and doesn't really do chit-chat.

The other thing is that I don't really have time to mentor her (and I realise that sounds terrible). I've been teaching for a long time and I generally know what I'm doing. I have a lot of resources to draw on, which hugely helps workload, and I'm happy with how/what I teach. I don't want to hand over all my resources to someone else, and at the same time, I don't have time to sit and plan in-depth with her either.

I realise I sound like an utter bitch, but I feel guilty about watching someone struggling.

I am pretty surprised that you haven't offered your resources. I have lost count of the number of people I have given a memory stick of resources to! We have an NQT in Year 6 and one of the first things I did was to offer my plans and resources. The lack of sharing is what makes teaching hard work as lots of people are busying away making their own stuff when they could be sharing the load. It is true that you probably won't get much back from her but you may do in years to come or you might one day find yourself teaching a new subject or in a new year group where you will be very pleased if someone helps you!

Its no good 'gently hinting' that some of you meet in the staffroom at 3.15, you need to go and collect her on the way.
Alternatively, take a cuppa in to her room and ask her how she is getting on / what she's doing that week / offering her some support and resources.
WIth IT these days, it is so much easier to share than when I started, and yet all my colleagues used to let me borrow things (yes, hand made and covered with sticky back plastic), because that is what you do when you have a new colleague.
Of course she isn't chatty - you all know each other and go and have a cuppa without bringing her in to the chat Hmm
