Primary Core Subject leaders - tlr?

Just wondering how many of you get a tlr for leading a core subject? If so, in which subjects? Especially with the 'deep dive' ofsted inspections, it's quite a responsibility!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

No Grin

I lead Maths, Assessment and Computing

My exact thought. I lead three subjects and am SENCO (for which I do get time and pay). Ofsted in a small school us absolutely brutal and actually I think it's much harder as the curriculum isn't written for mixed year groups.

I don’t understand this mentality. In no other industry would this happen.

Teachers are mugs (I know, I’ve been one for 20 years!).

If you’re asked to take on extra responsibility, you ask “does that come with additional remuneration and non-contact time to complete the demands of the role?”. If they say “no”, you say “thanks but no thanks”.

Simple as that.

This is exactly what happens in the rest of industry.

if you’re silly enough to take it on without, then when Ofsted come in and grill you, you say “I’m sorry but I haven’t been given the time I need to lead the subject effectively or to answer your questions effectively” to every question they ask.

Then it’s on the management.

The STPD and your union are your friends.

The thing is, when Ofsted isn't looming I work in a lovely school. I don't want it to change after a bad inspection, don't want lots of additional LA visits, don't want to lose autonomy in what I teach. We have three teachers, including a teaching deputy, and a very part time Head. It's very very difficult in a small school to say no to things because the Head simply can't so everything themselves. I'm glad I worked hard in our Ofsted year to get my subjects to Ofsetd'd paperwork standards. Now we are back to low pressure and a lovely school again.

It always blows my mind what Primary teachers put up with (although I understand why you as per the pp). Secondary teachers wouldn't lead a subject without a TLR.
