Nut free school lunches for teachers

I am moving schools to a strictly nut free school. All of my go to lunches and snacks contain or are nuts!

I would be very grateful for some inspiration, especially for nut free emergency snacks that can be kept in your bag. Also: are there any things that contain “surprise” nuts or that I should be aware of?
Added difficulty: I am trying to eat low carb where possible.

Sesame is often banned along with nuts! So hummus is a problem there.

Not at the schools I’ve worked at. The op only says nut free, not nut and sesame free.

Look at 9 bars- they are seed and carob based rather than nuts, hummous, replace nuts for seeds. My children's school is nut free- remember nut allergies are airborne so very serious for those with an allergy. Mine were dairy and soya anaphylactic with epi pens and that was a mindfield and not airborne. My youngest still carries one.

Where are people buying houmous made from nuts? That’s not what the standard houmous contains.

DH and I, as well as a visiting friend who’s sitting here, must have worked in over 20-25 schools between us... none of us have been in a nut free school so it can’t be unusual.

I remember hearing about it during epi-pen training and the nurse’s View was it gave false confidence. She gave the example of a packed lunch and a parent not being clued up or refusing to comply and everyone thinking the odd bit of packed lunch sharing was ok. She reckoned it was better to be vigilant and aware of possible dangers. The school dinners themselves were but free, but we never really advertised that.

Primary schools seem to be but free but my DH boarding school isn't at all.

What clovk said.

The "nut-free" label is dangerous as it can never ever be guaranteed, and takes attention away from responsible behaviour such as never sharing food.

OP, your school is bloody stupid.

Oh, and a nut-free emergency snack is anything that is not a nut.

Look for recipes for roast chick peas. They have the same crunch as nuts but aren't - and they are full of protein. You can roast them and then coat them in whatever you want (or marinate and then roast) - for example, lime and sea salt, chili and lime, orange, ginger, honey and chili and so on.

I've never worked in a nut free school either. Can you eat lunch in your car? I think I rarely have nutty things but it sounds like the OP really wants them! (If she eats in her car there might be traces on her clothes, but if she eats breakfast in her house the same applies).

Am I the only one that read this as the NUT providing free lunches in the staffroom.... clicked on it in my excitement...
