Would you like a Gift Bag of Stationery from a parent with:

Academic Diary
Pens
Post it Notes
Blu Tac
Highlighters
Paper clips/Bulldog clips/Pins
Pritt Stick
Pencil Case

And is there anything else you’d find useful?

Or do you find stationery gifts rubbish?

I love having my own stationary, as things like glue does not last very long. Sounds lovely

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 18/07/2019 19:35

I'm primary and haven't been supplied with a diary for about 5 years! It's a luxury that the school can't afford. Having said that, I've already bought the next academic year and I suspect most teachers have. I would absolutely love blu tac from that list and good quality pritt stick!

Twotome · 18/07/2019 21:21

@Whenasuitcasejustwontdo it’s a pack of the real deal pritt stick Grin

I work in a school (not in a teaching role) and had this conversation with a couple of teachers today and they both said they love getting decent stationery rather than hundreds of boxes of chocolates and mugs.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 18/07/2019 22:00

Stationery = paperclips and stuff
Stationary = not moving
If you're teaching, please get it right! Grin

Some ungrateful teachers on Mumsnet. A gift is the thought and knowing that your school has funding issues and lacks stationery so buying some is thoughtful.
I work in a pupil referral unit so it’s unlikely to receive gifts as most don’t want to be there and the parents begrudge them being there.

I know the teachers especially the secondary ones would love notebooks and pens and post it’s. We are quite fortunate in that we aren’t on a tight budget so can order pens and whiteboard markers but most of the teachers are stationery mad and love a good pen or notebook

That’s not fair. The op has asked. People are answering honestly.

wonderpants · 19/07/2019 06:16

School provide me with stationery. I've already bought myself a nice diary.
To be honest, any present is gratefully received then put away until I use it- whether it is wine, chocolates, post-it notes. There is very little for under £10 that I don't buy myself if I need it.
The sentiment and appreciation is worth much more than any gift.

sashh · 19/07/2019 06:49

Another - don't get the diary. I've often had school diaries but I also have an expensive filofax.

You can never have too many glue sticks IMHO and I LOVE stationery.

I have a set of frozen felt tips, they are coveted by everyone over 16 I teach / have taught. If a table are working really well they get to have the frozen pens.

For a primary teacher having a few packets of pens with frozen, minions, pretty patterns etc might be useful.

I mainly do supply, I used to lose pens every day, now I have glittery pens with, 'stolen from Ms sashh' on them.

timeandtimeagain42 · 19/07/2019 07:32

Well I'd love the fact that you but time, thought and effort into making up the bundle op. Honestly though, as I say on these threads every year, a genuine "thank you my child has got a lot out of his year with you" is worth any amount of flowers, chocolates or wine.

daisypond · 19/07/2019 07:36

Sassh what are frozen felt tips? I’ve never heard of them. What’s so good about them?

windmill121 · 19/07/2019 07:43

I work in an office, If someone bought be a thank you present and bought me something practical like stapler, paper clips post it's, whilst grateful for the thought, i would be slightly disappointed.

A thank you is for the person

Personally I buy teachers a vouchers for M&S as I'm sure they get enough crap and cheap tat. A £5 or £10 voucher means they can treat them self's to something they want want.

Twotome · 19/07/2019 18:20

@daisypond i took it as the film frozen - so character pens.

I am secondary (independent) and would love a gift like that, so thoughtful! I agree about the diary though, I got mine a couple of months ago and school provide a planner.

Twotome is right, they have pictures of the film characters on them.

It was pur accident I got them in the pound shop as the cheapest and the students went nuts for them. Not children either, 17 year olds.

They now reside in a tin which also has frozen characters on it.

PerkyPomPoms · 20/07/2019 07:03

I’d love stationery especially whiteboard markers and blutack - sounds a great present to me!

1066vegan · 20/07/2019 22:50

Primary school teacher here. I'd really appreciate that although I wouldn't use the diary as we get given one.
I'd especially like the glue sticks and whiteboard pens as we're always running out.

Russell19 · 21/07/2019 21:56

Where is my school going wrong?! We don't get given a diary! Can't afford Haha!

NCTDN · 22/07/2019 06:47

I know it's too late but I'm primary and would be delighted with that stationery. There's so much more thought than a bottle of wine! I struggle to even get whiteboard pens never mind a diary or bulldog clips Sad

Twotome · 23/07/2019 21:02

I’ve gone with the stationery and also got a Costa voucher so they can have a hot drink and cake on me Smile

Hope everyone enjoys their summer break.

That all sounds lovely. I’d have really liked that but, as a pp has said, I am so grateful
for any present.
