Advice needed! Asking for classroom experience/observation

So I'm currently volunteering in my dc's school , just listening to readers twice a week. Alongside this, I'm studying for an OU degree with my eventual aim being to apply for a PGCE. In October I will be starting a 'free elective' module that will count towards my degree , called Learning and Teaching in the Primary Years (or similar!) . The module reccomends that I have a placement for at least 10 hours to observe teaching and gain practical experience. I really doubt my reading volunteering will count as this as I'm not really in the classroom iyswim, so how can I go about requesting more 'in depth' without coming across as a total pain? Ideally I'd like to gain experience in reception/ks1 whereas I'm reading with ks2 so i'd be asking for something completely different and don't quite know the best way to phrase the request without seeming as though I'm expecting the school to go to huge lengths to accommodate me! (I'm a huge overthinker!)
I'm also a bit conscious that even without needing this experience for the OU module, my reading experience might not be enough to get me onto a PGCE so I think I need to try and gain a bit more 'proper' experience anyhow?!
Any tips much appreciated ...I'm a bit self conscious so I need a script Grin

Just go and see the head or deputy and explain that you are applying for a course. Say that you are enjoying your experience with KS2 but would really like to observe good practice in EYFS and ks1. The staff will be completely used to dealing with students and people such as your self who need to gain experience. Don't worry, just be clear on what you would like. Anything else, pm me. Ive been a primary TA for donkeys years and now NQT in secondary.

In my experience good schools are happy to support people looking to gain more experience. In the schools I have worked at they have organised time for people to see a variety of classes if they

I would find out who organises students and volunteers then go and speak to them explaining what you have said in your post. I would hope they would be supportive.

I'm sure any school would welcome a 'free' pair of hands in the classroom for 10 hours a day. Especially in the EYFS/KS1 as they are quite dependent still at that age. Good luck OP.
