I work in a primary school and in the last two weeks have witnessed two very distressing situations. One, the HT dragging a SN child into her office and screaming at him. I honestly thought someone was being murdered from the noise but it was just because he didn't want to do his work.
Then a SL had visitors in her classroom and insisted one child be removed from the room in case he decided to be naughty. He didn't want to go and started crying and she still insisted so a member of staff picked him up and carried him out. He cried for an hour, and was hitting himself with his fists, then the SL came outside and saw him crying and told him off very firmly for not cooperating and said he'd be sent to the HT.
I've felt very shaken by both these incidents and feel I should report it to someone but don't know how or to who. The school has a lovely behaviour policy so in writing all looks good.
Am I just being too soft?

@Llamatears your one bad experience does not mean you should be dishing out advice to others discouraging the Safeguarding of children. I am sorry you've had a hard time but you have been extremely forthright with your views on this thread, speaking as if you are an authority on the matter, and if someone chooses to blindly follow your advice then children's safety could be at risk. Hiding this thread now, I have no more to say other than to please ask people with concerns to report them.

@anotherturniponafork thank goodness a voice of reason, thought I was going mad for a minute.

Contact your union asap.

I would def go to union for advice. I feel it needs reporting but would get advice properly first.

Some of the advice in the thread is appalling. I cannot believe that people in the business of caring for and educating children are advocating turning a blind eye.

It is your duty to report this to the LADO. Please refer to your school’s safeguarding policy for the name, contact details and procedure to follow. Alternatively, Google the name of your county and the word ‘LADO’ and the details should come up. Our LA has a dedicated website for its Safeguarding Children Broad.

As as the usual practice with safeguarding, keep this confidential and don’t discuss with colleagues (and certainly not the children’s parents!)
