End of term thank you - is this a terrible idea?

My DS's teacher has been really outstanding at helping him navigate his way through a tricky family illness situation. He'd like to get her a present for the end of term, which is lovely and to be encouraged.

He says she gets annoyed because her sharpeners go missing - so he wants to get her a year's supply of sharpeners for next year.

I totally understand there are budget cuts and this might be a really great thing - but, is it a bit shit?

I'd pad it out with a bottle of wine, I'm not a monster.

Totally outing myself here but I've a relative who's been clearing out their office and landed me with umpteen packs of paper, pencils and what-not the other week which made it into school. They were very very happy!

I inherited a classroom from a pritt stick hoarder - to the average teacher, finding your new classroom has a cupboard with about a hundred pritt sticks and file pockets in is like finding the holy grail.

That is SUCH a lovely thought from your son.
The electric pencil sharpener is the BEST thing ever, in a Primary classroom.
The teacher will think of your ds every day, when she gets to use it. FAR better than a scarf or some coffee.
The note to the HT is also fab.

You sound like a lovely parent. Flowers

Retired teacher here - the sharpener is a great idea and better than a bracelet or scarf that might not be to her taste.

I'm a teacher and I'd love this! Well done OP ⭐

I told DS "the mumsnet teachers think you've nailed it and she'll love it" "good. I'm really glad I had Ms M. Some kids haven't had her AT ALL"

Those poor other kids.

Your son (and you) and Ms M sound lovely. I wish someone would buy me a pencil sharpener Smile

Anyone else wondering if there is going to be a run on electric pencil sharpeners as a loads of mnetters go off to buy an electric sharpener as a teacher present for the end of term... Grin

If anybody is thinking of getting stationery stuff as a present, it’s worth checking the prices on amazon and seeing how much the prices fluctuate on camelcamelcamel - when I got the whiteboard pens ds wanted for his teacher, the price was less than half than the normal price by hitting them on an amazon offer - and over the course of

Argh. How did that happen? Trying to say there’s enough time between now and the end of term to watch and get really good deals rather than having to buy in haste!

The other thing I’ve bought for ds to give a teacher was a copy of the Beano Summer Special - because ds (a massive Beano fan!) thought that would be the most wonderful special summer present anybody could possibly have and as he adored his teacher (who was indeed fab) he wanted to give him something some special. Think I added a bottle of wine with it and I have no idea what he thought of it, but as he got my little quirky son and his love of the Beano, hopefully he was touched )and able to use in his class later on!).

Last year a little boy gave me a shoebox filled with marker pens, green pens, glue sticks, sharpeners and randomly a pink stress toy which he said was an elephant but was, in actual fact, a stress penis.
