I'm very interested in what time and resources are given to this at all levels please?
Do you also cover the impact of the Holocaust for Romany as well as other groups.
I'm not here to criticise at all, just after information.

My kids primary school are doing nothing about it not is my local college (A level and upwards). Couldn’t say about secondary. Doubt it would be covered though.

RomanyQueen · 05/06/2019 22:16

I know there's resources for schools, not a huge amount and that some primaries had Romany readers for a visit.
I was wondering how widespread it was.

Aso, more is the point would teachers want to be involved with this.

I have never heard of Roma month, I’m afraid. DD is at primary.

RomanyQueen · 05/06/2019 22:28

I wonder whether it's just certain schools in certain areas.
I do know it exists, but would love to hear from a teacher who has organised or been involved in delivering a lesson.

I taught some elements of the Holocaust as part of a topic on WW2, when I had Y6. Different groups that were targeted, including the Roma who called what happened the Porajmos. The Devouring.
I had Jewish children in the class.

So, Roma month has been going since 2008, and no, I’ve never heard of it, seen events based around it or publicity about it. Considering I’m based in Brighton, I’m surprised.

stucknoue · 07/06/2019 16:19

It was covered as part of history and the holocaust at my DD's 6th form but she was studying history and there's a small settled Roma population in the city which (unusually I'm told) has kids at the college, one went on to study medicine, and there's several fairgrounds that overwinter here

Thank you very much for your input. It will be interesting if people post from different areas.
I was aware of it through research and study, there are a few resources online for different ages, but not enough.
I'm not surprised though because Roma are a group that have always been overlooked when it came to human rights in particular.
