Have changed my name for this. Going to keep brief but need advice.
All of my children go to a very small primary, numbers have dwindled and they have been doing a lot of cut costing. Losing members of staff etc etc… This has lead to rumours about whether it could close. Headmaster says it's not going to and have dismissed rumours.I have requested governors minutes, not on website but managed to get as I personally wanted to find out for myself. It's not looking good, there have been meetings between different people. Lots of information to confirm it's in real danger of closing unless we get more children very soon. I'm very close to a lot of the parents and they have no idea. I don't want to tell anyone as it feels like stirring things and if people decide to leave, feel like it would be my doing :-( Shouldn't the school inform the parents? I suppose they are worried for it to get out. Does anyone know the process of how much notice they would give people? My son goes into final year....

fedup - not as simple as that - low numbers equals 'close the school'.
Where do these children go to school?
In a rural area the next nearest could be 30 minutes away. Some rural counties are vast.

My LA has something like 50% of its schools with less than 100 pupils.
When the government talks of 'small schools' they mean 200, that would be fairly big here.

Losing a school can also decimate a village.

Has 16 between year r-6. A few years back it was down to 9 and no new admissions but has a big total of 5 due to start this September. Biggest ever! Hang in there. It may be ok xx

Thanks SkyeJuly. We do know of 4 potentials in village for next Sep but ks1 this Sep will only be 3 so 3 in one class. More family's may come though, fingers crossed.....

Instead of focussing on what the school cant do...what about what you can do!

There's a school near me with about 50 pupils and I've often wondered how they afford to keep going so with 21 it wouldn't be a surprised to anyone that they might close would it?

Transport practicalities aside imo going to a larger school would be better for the social development, transfer to secondary, extra curricular opportunities etc. I'm not sure I would fight a closure

I agree but I just want to know as I don't want to be moving DC in the middle of yr6 but equally I feel loyal to the school...

I think you probably have to 'prepare for the worst and hope for the best'.

If it was me I would start looking at other schools, not necessarily to leave but to have a better idea of what's around and available should the school have to close.
