Which texts do you love teaching to Y7, Y8 and Y9?

Novels, plays, short stories, poems, non-fiction - all of them!

Looking for new ideas to refresh the curriculum offer. Not necessarily newly published but not just ex-GCSE texts either. Are there any old favourites you've returned to after a break? Any new passions?

I agree with Framed, although some weaker readers do not understand the humour. After Tomorrow is also good and so is The Othet Side of Truth (much use of flashback good for helping with the concept of structure).
Another one I like is Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.

This last is more primary, but it’s very funny for teachers: Aquila.

I am teaching Tamar by Mal Peet. Set in WW2 in The Netherlands during starvation winter. Concerns SOE agents and then a time shift to 1995. Massive love triangle and big surprise at the end. Tons of research to be done. Lots of cross curricular. Hefty moral issues. Strong female and male characters. Some swearing and there is obvious affair happening. It is brill and my gang love it.
