Becoming a primary school teacher

I have GCSE’s in English and Maths but didn’t pass GCSE science so I took BTEC Applied Science in college and got a Distintion*. Would it possible to become a primary school teacher with a BTEC science and not GCSE? I can only find on University websites that you need GCSE’s and wondered if BTEC is allowed. Thank you

Best bet is to contact a teacher training provider and they should be able to give you advice on courses and qualifications you may need. Best of luck!

You would first need a degree and then to do a PGCE or a to complete a degree with QTS (qualified teacher status) at the end of it. It will likely be much more difficult to get accepted onto a degree course without GCSE science but not impossible. I would also bear in mind that getting accepted onto a PGCE even if you do well in your degree is not guaranteed and the places are very competitive.

What level btec did you do?

I think if it's level 2 or above then it's equivalent and therefore fine
