Help! May need to cancel revision session

I am due to do a revision session for A-level tomorrow and it looks like I may have to cancelSad

My husband's Aunt has taken ill - she is elderly and he is her only relation. So, he may not be around to look after our 5 year old.

I have no one else who can have DS and I can't take him to school with me as he will want to talk/play/will rapidly get bored.

I feel awful but other than making it up to them after school when we go back, I'm not sure what to do?

Even worse, not sure how to let them know as they don't check their school emails.

Aargh! It never rains but pours!

Suggestions and sympathy equally welcome!

How long is the session supposed to be? Can you take DS, and also take some of his toys and/or set him up with a movie on netflix in a nearby classroom?

Can DS not go to a friend's house? I would do this like a shot for a friend, especially if they had my DS in return as a quid pro quo!

Can another teacher cover for you if you grovel? Can a friend take DS for a few hours?
Otherwise take DS with lots of bribes, and attempt the teaching session with an apology to your students. Plus an extra session after the holidays finish.
You or another teacher needs to show up.

You need to turn up even if the content of the session has to change or you send them home with some work to do and the promise to rearrange after school when you go back.

I'd try and arrange for a friend or colleague to have DS but if not take him with you

Some good suggestions here.

You are not responsible for your students not checking emails.

Can you send work via email and catch up later?

Don't see why you have to do another session on work you don't have to do anyway.

In this instance I would go with DS. Tell the study due to personal circumstances you are unable to run the planned session but you will do a short workshop to deal with specific queries, and send them away with some material. Then DS can be in the room, you can have conversations and possibly your DS can be entertained a bit by a student or 2 for a bit.

Just bring your DS . And some headphones and a movie on Netflix or whatever he enjoys . Don't let the students down if possible

Oooo.... I wonder if you are my DC's A level teacher.

She had a revision session booked tomorrow morning, but did get an email to cancel. It's a shame to miss the session, but understandable that things crop up. She just used the time to revise here instead.

This is/was voluntary, right? So you give notice and don’t go. Don’t tie yourself in knots. Email and let the school office know, they can phone their homes and leave messages.
