So I've not applied for a job for 20 years. My cv is pretty up to date so just needs a bit of tweaking. But I haven't got a clue what goes on a letter of application! Can you please help? I'm primary.

Have you tried the TES site?

Address each point in the personal specification. Good luck.

Most schools won't accept CVs now due to safeguarding, have they got application forms on their website?
Good luck with it, anyway

So do I not do acv?
rosequartz10 · 15/04/2019 11:21
Vast majority of schools don't accept CVs. You will need to fill in their application form and attach a covering letter.

Are you applying for an advertised job or applying on spec? If it’s for a particular job, there will be an application form to complete and a job spec. The trick is to include all of the things from the job spec in the letter. You don’t need a CV.
If it’s ‘on spec’, the letter could focus on why you want to work in that particular school, but also look at job specs for similar jobs and include the skills in the letter too.

Many years ago, the done thing was to handwrite part of the application so that you could demonstrate your handwriting. I'm guessing now everything should be typed?
MsJaneAusten · 17/04/2019 20:01
Yes, type the whole lot, and most people send it electronically too.
millimat · 17/04/2019 20:55
OK. Do I include the covering letter of application in the relevant section on the application form or put it separately?
MsJaneAusten · 17/04/2019 21:37
I used to put 'see covering letter' in the statement section of the application form, but I shortlisted with someone recently who said that really annoyed him (ooops!) so in more recent applications I have put some information in the personal statement and some in the letter.
CuckooCuckooClock · 20/04/2019 08:40
Look on tes.
Nowhere will want a cv.
Personal statement should go through every part of the job spec.
Cover letter/letter of application should explain why you are such a good fit for the school and why you want to work there.
Get someone else to read it before you send it if you can.
CuckooCuckooClock · 20/04/2019 08:41
Cover letter should be a separate doc
millimat · 20/04/2019 08:46
The school I'm looking at says to return to the school office or email. Is there a preferred option by senior leaders? I want to create a good impression!
astuz · 20/04/2019 16:37
email it in
GreenTulips · 20/04/2019 16:42
The letter should cover all the personal points - organised professional, fundraising, governors, things where you go abouve and beyond the normal teaching. The other should be your professional experience
millimat · 20/04/2019 17:29
@GreenTulips the letter and the other? Now I'm panicking - I've just done a letter?
