Cover. Told to take on extra lessons, zero pay.

So have been asked to take on some classes of my own. Zero extra pay (no budget) but free time allowed for planning, alternative is that I get to cover them anyway with no frees and possibly rubbish cover.

Time for a work to rule?

My interpretation is that OP is a cover supervisor who has been asked to take responsibility for some classes.

If you're a cover supervisor, you could ask to be paid on the Unqualified scale (unless you are qualified?! In which case, ask for that). I'm not sure you'd be better off though. Are you in a union?

@Corneliawildthing someone who head teachers pay to ‘cover’ classes rather than getting a supply teacher in. They aren’t teachers and don’t have to even be graduates. It’s a way to cover teacher absence on the cheap.

It used to be that they were actually employed by the school, so were considered ‘better’ than supplies as they knew the kids/rooms/routines etc, but I’ve since seen plenty of adverts for supply cover supervisors who obviously wouldn’t have any of those advantages!

I’m sure someone in secondary will be able to expand further.
