How often do the SLT come into your classroom?

I'm just wondering what the norm is really. In my current class they hardly ever do, and I'm just left to get on with it which I really like. I've applied for a new job and apparently they pop in alot. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with that so just wondered what everyone's experiences are to see what happens in other schools!

Thank you for reading!

Hi where I work we are pretty much left alone unless there is a problem. Suits me x

Ours makes a point of trying to come into each classroom every day. Passing on messages and chatting to the staff and children etc in a nice way. It’s clearly not a drop in or an observation but it means they really do know the school and what goes on. The staff like the head and don’t seem to mind.

I went on a tour of a school where the head took me into each classroom and the staff seemed very used to seeing her. She saw a child struggling and gave him quite a bit of support with his work sheet. It all seemed very open and supportive so SLT presence could be positive.

Most days someone pops their head in at some point!

Am not a teacher... but when DS was getting SLT (reception-yr1), the qualified SLT only did private sessions outside the classroom, about 8-10/term. However, some of the staff were trained to do group sessions of SLT which the relevant children did in a small group in corner of the classroom or a small spare room, usually 2x week for about 15-20 minutes.

@ljkk I think the op meant senior leadership team rather than speech therapist/ SaLT.

I am SLT, so all the time. :)

When I switched yeargroups the HT was in and out all the time in the first few weeks, even wanting to take part in some if the things the children were doing. That settled down very quickly and we see the HT in class only occasionally now, usually when they want something from me.

Ahhh... that makes sense! Oops. As you were.

Every day.

In my current school...never. Our only member of SLT is teaching a class herself. Observations aren't a done thing here. Our other SLT position has been vacant since October last year.

Thanks everyone seems it's a bit of a mix
