How do you find it ? I’d be an NQT but the job advertised has said nqts welcome to apply - first PT role I’ve seen that says this !! Does anyone know how they’d work PPA / NQT time ? Is it feasible with two DC (6 and 1) or will I be tearing my hair out & better to wait until DC2 starts school ?

At my school ppa gets pro rated, I think NQT time too.

ArmchairTraveller · 23/02/2019 07:40

You get a pro rata PPA/NQT time, it will take longer to complete your NQT requirements but perfectly manageable. What back up do you have for your children?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 23/02/2019 07:43

Our PT teachers get reduced PPA time. As a PP has said, it’ll take longer to pass but the 4 days ‘off’ might help you keep on top of workload and have a life.

We’d be using a mixture of childminder and after school clubs. I won’t make a huge amount after paying for childcare until DC2 funding kicks in and my plan was to wait until then before looking but I’m just wondering if it’s worth a shot or I should just enjoy being at home with her and not rush back before I “have” to.

I’d get it out of the way. It’s a bloody hard year and once you’ve got it over with you don’t have to think about it any more. Are you on pgce now?

Needmorewine · 23/02/2019 07:51

No I finished the PGCE a couple of years ago, did TA for a bit to give myself some breathing space post PGCE madness and whilst I loved that after a couple of months was chomping at the bit to put “my” ideas into practice ... was starting to think then about then unexpectedly fell pregnant with DC2 Grin. Ideally I’d try and do the TA again just to ease myself back in but would actually be worse off after paying for childcare.

If you feel ready, go for it!

Curiousmum69 · 25/02/2019 19:20

I'm going to be doing my NQT on a .8

Every thing is pro rated but it's still 10% ppa and 10% NQT time. I'd be tempted to do it before the extend the nqt period. Then at least it is done.

Muddysnowdrop · 25/02/2019 21:23

You will be reading your hair out anyway. I think a dc at nursery is easier to manage than one at school - no homework or days they want you to go in etc for nursery/childminder.

I love 3 days a week. Do a full on Monday-Wednesday then have four days with my little one. I find I work Monday, Tues and Weds evening's to keep on top of it all but then do very little on my days off (If I try she just batters the keyboard so is not possible to even try!)

Muddysnowdrop · 01/03/2019 21:51

We don’t get a choice about which days we have off if part time, bear that in mind you might not get to pick.

Holidayshopping · 02/03/2019 15:50

PPA is usually 30 minutes per day and NQT would be the same, so you’d get about a morning off a week.

BackforGood · 02/03/2019 22:41

Do you no longer have to do your NQT year within a certain time of your PGCE ??

Curiousmum69 · 03/03/2019 06:56

@BackforGood

No you can leave as long as you like between, but once you start you have to finish within a certain time frame and you only get one shot

BackforGood · 03/03/2019 09:54

Oh, right. Thanks Curious
