Teaching at your children’s school

I am a middle leader at a semi rural local school which is lovely. It’s a big secondary school and some teachers have their children at this school. I’ve always had mixed feelings about this as I think it can prevent children finding their own space and if things go wrong it’s a bit of a nightmare however I have seen it work well for some families...... so my question is send my children to my school or make them travel a little further ( 45min bus ) to another very nice school?

I moved my Dd to the school I work at in year 9 as her previous school is going through some major changes. It's all good, and many of the staff have Dcs at the school, some naughty, some nice.

Dh is deputy head at the school where dd is and ds will be next year. I'm a teacher too and have taught both my children. It's never been a problem in the slightest. Neither of my dc mind at all, and I don't find it at all difficult to treat them like the other pupils.

My son & I did 4 terms together. It was fine when he was ‘fine’. It was really not fine as his needs became more obvious & his provision had to become increasingly individual & the school were out of their depth (subsequently went on to get an EHCP with high level funding). It is much easier to be the assertive advocate for your child when it’s not to your colleagues.

Tbh I think parents and children can have different ideas of what "fine" is.
