Has anyone packed in a permanent position to work on supply?

Is it worth it? I'm struggling to keep my head above water. Supposedly work 0.6 but it's ridiculous how much work I'm doing.
I've been in the same job for nearly 20 years ago so moving on is going to be a massive deal. But I can't do it any more. Sad
If I went to a supply agency what could I potentially earn?

Yeah - only reason I can sit on agency's books hoping for a phonecall is that our finances work with only one wage and this is me trying to get back into things.

My daughter has had 5 days supply work since September. She's now decided to go back into a permanent role (which she didn't want) because their finances can't take it any longer. I did supply a couple of years ago...was inundated with work. Things have moved on, and not for the better I feel 🤷‍♀️.

Me.. I gave up permanent 0.5 contract, ups 3 and tlr when had second baby after 12 years in a school went to m6 0.5 teaching fixed term and stayed 3 years but found teaching so hard with a family. Was going to supply but panicked about no work so have just moved into pre school sector, massive pay cut but fits much better with family and work /life balance and don’t get all extra stuff that goes along with teaching. Saying that, i loved teaching and would never say never to going back. Good luck

I did. I was on M6 when I left, and the agency paid me £110 per day, so below scale. I liked the flexibility (only accepted day to day supply positions), and I was well established, did almost all my supply in one school, but I just wasn’t earning enough. I took a permanent, full time position in the school I did my supply in, in the end.

I think primary is more difficult - maybe because they use their HLTAs to cover classes more often? If you need the income, you're probably better off looking for another job rather than considering supply.

Not me but my friend has. She's been getting fairly regular work from her previous school but isn't with an agency or anything. It works for her as she doesn't rely on it as an income just as bonus money for hols, xmas etc She loves her job but the stress of doing it full time was too much so this works really well for her.

My sister gets very regular supply work at the Primary she quit a permanent post. Being on the premises helps with getting more shifts (unexpected staff sickness for a couple of days, for example) as the secretary doesn’t have to start ringing round everyone. Sister could double her days quite easily, but that’s not what she wants. Much better work/life balance. She’s in rural Scotland though.

Tbh I work 3 days atm ( obv theoretically as I work at home on the other two days).
I've found out that full time hlta jobs pay pretty much the same. I could do that!
