How easy is it to get back into teaching?

I have a 2 and 4 year old. I have worked part time (primary) since my eldest was born but I struggle doing 2 days per week. I feel like so much happens that I miss, and I am hardly in and settled before its the weekend again. I have looked at going full time but with nursery fees, it hardly seems worth it, and it means that when my eldest starts school next year, I won't be able to do any drop off/pick ups/school plays/assemblies etc.
So my next train of thought is to take a career break and go back to teaching when my littlest is in year 2, but I don't know how realistic that is.
Has anyone here gone back after a career break or will a few blank years on the cv be the end of my career?

I have. Big career break but I’m a maths teacher so in demand. It was a horrible adjustment last year when I returned but ok now after a year. The way teaching is going, you will probably be employable even after a break.

As long as you have QTS and you can still stand in front of a class, I would imagine you’ll be just fine.

They would employ literally anybody willing where I live. Nobody wants to be a teacher here anymore. Vacancies everywhere.

I had 6 years off raising kids and I returned just fine, and that was years ago when there were still people wanting to teach!

I think you'll be snapped up but be prepared to take a paycut. I had to because the school was academised so didn't use the burgundy book and i'd had time out.

Oh yes-you’ll probably have to take a pay cut whether you work in an academy or not. Pay portability has been scrapped. My friend who has been on UPS3 for over a decedents now on M4 because she needs a job and that’s all they’re prepared to pay her.

Yes, i'd been on M6 and had to go back to M2. It's shit- my brain and experience didn't just vanish because i'd dropped a couple of kids!

I had an 11 year break and have found it amazingly easy to get back into teaching. My subject is physics which is always in demand but I thought it would take me longer than it did.
