How soon can a Head if Year/Learning Leader resign from the role and resume to being. Normal teacher? Handed my letter in today - it's madness. No be has listened to my requests so I resigned today. Head is still sending me pastoral stuff tonight so I don't think he's seen my resignation letter. What can I expect in terms of timescale here?

I don’t know if you can actually resign part of your role. Have you got union advice? I think you might need it.

If so I'm not sure you can do that - I would think it would be at the HT and govs discretion. Were you employed initially in the position you hold?

Yes, want to go back to teaching. Was originally employed as a teacher then 2 yrs ago, was offered a Head of Year role for a TLR. It's been the worst 2 yrs of my life and this has nothing to do with the pupils I've supported - I love them. Crazy workload. My hair falling out in clumps with stress. 

I would have thought that this would be extremely difficult to do except for next September. You’ve got a reduced timetable so to go back to teaching they’d need to increase your teaching hours but the timetable is written. To hire someone to do HoY they would then be overstaffed in another subject.

Most likely if you want out before then you’ll be best to start looking for a different school for a teaching job.

Self certificate a week off. You need the space if your health is affected.

Depending on which book you are covered by blue/burgundy a resignation of a TLR has the same notice as a resignation most likely you'll be expected in role till Christmas.

If they replace you sooner then they could change from appointment. (Asking when they will stop paying the TLR is the best method!)

No idea of the legalities, but I don’t think you can just resign part of your responsibilities and the have no further duties in that area. There is always going to be a half-term, or term period to enable to school to find a replacement.

Have you spoken to the HT about your struggles?
