Just wondering how much ppa and duties you get it each week?

I'm KS1. 4.25hrs PPA (split up so a bit each day) and 3 x 25min duties.

State or private?

I'm KS1 and have 2 hours 20 mins PPA. I do one break duty. But surely it all depends on your teaching time as well?

SeamusMacDubh · 28/09/2018 21:04

I'm on 0.4 week contract (2 days) I get 1 hour PPA and do one 20 minute break duty

avoschmado · 29/09/2018 05:57

Sorry yes should have said private. Teaching time is 8.45-3.15

I work 2 days. I get paid 10 % extra and PPA on a day I'm not in school. No break duties but I do 2assemblies every week.

PumpkinPie2016 · 29/09/2018 09:33

I'm secondary but out of 25 one hour lessons a week, a mainscale teacher gets 3 free periods. I get more as I have a TLR.

All full time staff to 30 mins of duty per week or 15 mins if part time.

Fizzyhedgehog · 29/09/2018 10:22

I'm on 0.89, work four days per week. I do breakfast club once a week, at least one break duty each day (30 minutes), support my class during lunch and get 1 1/2h PPA per week.

CraftyGin · 29/09/2018 10:32

I have 1 10 minute and 1 30 minute duty, as well as an hour of homework club.

I teach 19 hours out of 30.

Rosieposy4 · 05/10/2018 21:35

That’s generous OP
We have to be in school from 8:30 till 3:30, 6 period day.
I get three frees a week as a full time teacher, plus one before school duty and one break duty

castasp · 06/10/2018 08:12

2 week timetable, so 50 hours of slots for teaching over the fortnight, we have to teach 45 hours, and get 5 x 1 hr for PPA - this is the absolute bare minimum that a school can legally give a teacher (10% of the timetable) and I find it very mean.

2 duties a week, 20 mins each

phlebasconsidered · 06/10/2018 09:12

2 hours a week and 2 break duties. Plus i have to plan for the TA that covers my ppa! It sucks.

ILoveMyMonkey · 06/10/2018 09:33

I'm really lucky at my state school. Employed 0.5 but only teach 0.4 so 2 days with 1/2 a day PPA. 1 playtime duty, 1 half hour lunch club (for which we get a day in lieu for doing).

parrotonmyshoulder · 06/10/2018 10:27

All duties. Only 40 minute lunch ‘break’ each day.
2 hours 45 mins PPA.
Teaching time 9.15-3.15

cloudyweewee · 06/10/2018 12:36

Teach full time. 1 afternoon of PPA a week. although our afternoons in KS2 are fairly short- 1 hour 50 minutes, I also do a 15 minute break duty each week.

Waterlemon · 09/10/2018 21:52

I understand that you work in a Private setting, so I’m not sure how helpful my post will be to you OP, but it maybe useful to you as a comparison/negotiation tool.

In English state maintained schools, and academies that follow “the burgandy book”, break duties come under your “directed time” allowance. This is around 1200 hrs a year and includes things like staff meetings, training, parents evenings, assemblies. The NUT have a directed time calculator on their website.

Morning and afternoon Break times can be included in your directed time allowance, but not lunchtime. More guidance here -

www.nasuwt.org.uk/advice/conditions-of-service/directed-time.html

PPA time is also directed time and should come out of your directed time allowance.

I also note that your PPA time is split throughout the week. In English stare maintained schools, a PPA block most consist of no less than 30mins.

avoschmadoo · 11/10/2018 19:38

Yes each day we get a bit. 3 days of 30mins, two days of 75mins

Mistoffelees · 11/10/2018 20:32

Teach 9-3, no break times as I'm in nursery and an hour for lunch but realistically only take half an hour at most to eat. 2 hours PPA a week in one block. I think legally it's 10% of your teaching time and should be in one block I thought.

lorisparkle · 11/10/2018 20:43

I teach .7 Currently only having 1 x 30minute lunch a day which is exhausting as still trying to fit an hours worth of work into it. We don’t get a break morning or afternoon. I have 1 morning PPA a week but this is over what I should have as I often have multi agency meetings to fit in. As pp have said in state schools following the burgundy book PPA should be 10% of your teaching timetable in blocks no shorter than 30minutes.

MaisyPops · 12/10/2018 20:36

PumpkinPie2016
Same. One break and bus duty a week for us and then 3 hours PPA a week for main scale teachers. Like you, I have more due to TLR time.

Piggywaspushed · 12/10/2018 21:13

I'd be interested to know how much TLR time secondary HoDs get. At my place it's 1 hour a fortnight (for a 'samll department, whatever that means) which has existed since pre data obsession days and is, frankly, ridiculous.

piggy
I think I didn't phrase my last reply well and it was potentially sharing too much so had it deleted. I'll try again.

I work in a large school. Most middle leaders in reasonable sized posts (HOD or otherwise) tend to have between 7 and 10 frees a week depending on the size of their role and team.
In a typical school of our size a Key Stage lead in maths/english/science tends to be equivalent to a HOD of art, drama, RE, history etc. In schools where smaller subjects are grouped and there's a 'head of creative arts' or 'head of humanities' then the HODs are on a par with big core subjects.

1 hour a fortnight seems ridiculous.

Saying that, I know a friend who is head of a core department on 1 extra PPA a week because their other leadership time has to be departmental CPD and then they have to have a fixed meeting with SLT.

Piggywaspushed · 13/10/2018 08:06

I know : I hour is laughable. A HoF in my school doesn't even get that much. Typically, they would teach about 40/ 50, although soemtimes they seem to be on less 9that'll be because they do the timetables!). A head of say, KS4 English, Law, Politics , economics etc would be on about 41 - 42 lessons. I am not even sure how it is worked out since some subjects that are deemel 'large' don't really have many students! Heads of year do better. Having been for years on about 36 lessons, I think they have gone down to about 32.

Fifflefaffle · 14/10/2018 14:50

1 hour 45 mins ppa (work full time)
9 playground duties a week
