Sick note query - MH related

Timpani · 15/09/2018 13:32

I think I'm on the verge of a sicknote for MH reasons. I'm due at the Dr this week and think this is my only option.

I don't want my immediate line manager aware of why I am absent. The sicknote shouldn't go to her but then my return to work meeting would probably be with her? Does anyone have any advice? The thought of being off with KS4 classes is awful and it's the only thing that's kept me in school so far. I've also been putting on a brave face and so admitting defeat and getting a sick note will come as a surprise to most colleagues (one or two know there's something up though).
I just don't know what to do for the best. Being off sick feels like I will have my cards marked for some reason :(

I got my sicknote. It runs out next week.

Does anyone know who, at work, sees it? My friend/colleague took it in and handed it to the absence person but I've since had a message from my LM about it. It doesn't say they've seen it but it sounds like the HT has discussed it in their LM meeting?

I’m on SLT. We would have discussed your absence in general terms but not seen the sick note. ‘Miss X is currently signed off with stress/broken leg/pregnancy related issues’ and we’d have planned your cover and how to manage your return.

The note said "depression". Is that what would have been discussed? fwiw my LM isn't on SLT.

It should really only be HR that sees it but in terms of discussing it, depends on the sensitivity and if your line manager knows already. As an HR person I would ask the individual how they want it to be communicated and what do they want communicated. If you've not said anything then maybe they wont be aware of what you want said/not said.
I honestly wouldn't get hung up on it, your focus is getting better and mental health should be treated like any other health problem, because thats exactly what it is, you wouldn't worry as much if you had a broken leg now? Who cares what aaaaaanyone thinks, if they're not a friend or family, they're a flash in the pan and you wont think back in 20 years time and wonder what XYZ thought once? Not worth your energy xxxxx

Thank you @jackio2205. That really helps.

Are you well enough to return next week? If you aren't, you need to go back to the Doctor and see them, so they can reassess you and decide if they think you are fit for work, or whether you need to be given another fit note.

Timpani · 30/09/2018 17:47

I don't feel like I am at the moment @Lougle :( I wish I could say for sure I would be. I have another week and I'm hoping I feel better in another 7 days?

I've had a really bad weekend for my mood. I just feel bereft and dead inside. I don't know what to do for the best and am worrying about my classes, particularly year 11. I've heard they haven't got a subject specialist supply in. :(
