What shoes do you wear in the classroom?

I'm really struggling atm. I've lived in flip flops all summer so anything seems strange compared to that. The general trend seems to be ballerina style pumps but my feet really ache - I don't seem to have enough support. Yesterday I wore boots but felt too wintery (&feet ached anyway).
I do struggle with any footwear finding comfy shoes but am 40 and don't want to go down the really old lady comfy but utterly frumpy look even though they'd be heaven to wear. HelpWink

Anything flat that isn’t a ballerina! So loafers, brogues. Clarks also do some shoes that look a bit like ballerinas but have more support.

CusheyButterfield · 12/09/2018 07:30

Loafers from Clarks, brogues, Chelsea boots or some of the ballerina style shoes from the Next 'forever comfort' range.

Some hi-tech walking boots that look like shoes as my trousers cover the tops of them. They support my ankles and I can put some inserts in to support my arches. I wear them year round.

DanSullivan · 12/09/2018 11:18

Always closed toes, and I try to avoid completely flat shoes. I like a low heel. My comfiest school shoes are lace up leather shoes with a small wedge from Clarkes.

cloudyweewee · 12/09/2018 20:58

I wear Jade flats from Schuh. I have them in about 8 different colours.

MsJaneAusten · 12/09/2018 21:57

I have closed toe wedges. They're not the kind of thing I'd wear outside of school but they meet the school expectations and they're more comfortable than either flats or proper heels.

PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2018 21:58

Clark’s loafers. I have four pairs.

Holidayshopping · 12/09/2018 21:58

Birkenstocks till it’s cold, then boots!

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/09/2018 06:27

Another vote for Clark's loafers - I have some with the cushion sole. I can wear them all day and my feet don't ache Smile mine are flat but have a very slight wedge on the heel (about an inch) which I find helps.

I can't wear ballerina pumps - not enough support and they make my back ache.

Heels are also an absolute no for me - cause back ache and I can't seem to walk nicely in them at all! I either look like I've been on the brandy or have all the grace of a baby elephant Confused

I was known to have a pair of slippers hidden under my desk for when the kids weren't around!

I have no idea what I'm going to put on my feet when supply starts rolling for the year - at the moment I've got the plantar fascitis flareup from hell so I'm living in trainers which isn't exactly viable!

Fizzyhedgehog · 13/09/2018 16:00

Grey and pink trainers. All kids and staff wear "indoor shoes", which they change into or out of when entering/exiting the building.
I've also got some fluffy slippers for when it's colder. Grin

I’ve just bought some brogues and they are really comfy. I tried on a black pair but they felt like school shoes so I found a lovely pair in oxblood. I’ve had a few compliments on them this week but I’m mainly just loving being in (almost) flat shoes. I can’t manage heels all day.

wentmadinthecountry · 13/09/2018 22:12

5000 I've had the same thing but have fixed it to a great extent by always wearing Skechers flip flops around the house - I put them on the second I get out of bed. Even if I go to the loo in the night. Am fine wearing other shoes the rest of the time then.

millimat · 14/09/2018 08:49

Can someone please link to the types of loafers and brogues that you are on about? Thanks

I have these which I wear with ankle length cigarette/skinny trousers or a knee length skirt.

sashh · 14/09/2018 12:29

I got a few pairs from office in their sale a while ago. My favorite are loafers at the front with a slingback heel - sounds odd but I like them.

I have 3 pairs of Red or Dead 'Jades' in different colours. They're perfect for my wide feet, SOOOO COMFY and look super cute with dresses or leggings.

Loafers, they give more support than pumps.

GrimSqueaker · 15/09/2018 10:31

Oh it'll calm down wentmad it's my annual payback for spending the summer in flip flops and I get it most years!

I got a lovely pair of elasticated Chelsea boots from Tesco the other day - put a pair of really really el cheapo memory foam insoles in (from poundstretcher) cut right to fit and they're soooooo comfy. Fighting the urge to go buy another 3 pairs of these boots to get me through when they're inevitably out of season and the current ones die!

Apart from the head who is welded to her incredibly high heels, the staff in my kids' school seem to go directly from flip flops and sandals to UGG season!

AnySleepWillDo · 15/09/2018 13:29

grim we might have the same head, ours wears only incredibly high heels. Snow, rain, shine. Playground duty. Assembly's. I don't know how she does it.
