The Greatest Showman for a yr6 show?

I know it’s only September but I’m already thinking about the end of Year 6 production options!
Does anyone know of a Greatest Showman production that has been/can be adapted for a school production?
I’ve googled a bit but can’t seem to find anything suitable.

I think the licence will be prohibitively expensive, unless your school is loaded.

Our ex-Head of Drama (left last term) says we get our scores from The Musical Company.com .

Barnum was a racist and a fraud who treated his "exhibits" with abominable cruelty. I wonder how this can be suitable for a school production? Albeit I've not seen the film but imagine the reality of Barnum was glossed over so perhaps your production may be the same.

I wouldn't have thought it suitable as a school production at all - who/how are the "exhibits" going to be played...?

Completely agree with Mistress. It really isn’t at all helpful to remind children that people of colour and people with disabilities were treated so appallingly. Goes against everything we are trying to change in society. Adding a few catchy tunes and jazzy outfits doesn’t make it suitable. Please rethink.

I think the sanitised version that the movie tells is a wonderful lesson for children.

Moreover, it was an important step in history to bring people who were hidden away and considered ‘freaks’ into the light.

No matter what one may think of Barnum, he contributed to progression.

I don't think there is any way to do it legally.

Of course he didn't - he exploited an enslaved woman as well as his so called "freaks" for monetary gain. He also beat them.

There's nothing progressive about that whatsoever, that's why people are sold a lie as opposed to the nasty unpalatable truth, and as in your case, even blindly perpetuate it so as to justify the unjustifiable.

What so wonderful in children in being sold a lie about a reprehensible historical figure? Fear of the truth speaks volumes.

A professional company hadvto chsmge their circus themed “The Greatest Show” tour beyond all recognition because they would have been breaking copyright.

The most you can legally do is about 3 numbers in anon dramatic context.

BackforGood · 07/09/2018 23:23

I too was going to say you'll not get copyright.

MistressDeeCee don’t you think you should have watched the movie before mouthing off?
