I don’t think there’s any fixed number of days for private schools.

bookgirl1982 · 31/08/2018 06:25

There isn't, it just has to be "full-time education". My school tends to do 33 weeks of term time.

teacherspets · 31/08/2018 06:27

Think I've just worked it out as 32 weeks

Not sure if there is a legal minimum we do around 32-33 weeks per year

teacherspets · 31/08/2018 06:29

18/19 weeks holiday sounds standard for a private school.

As far as I’m aware there isn’t a minimum number of days. The hours per day tend to be longer, though (eg, yr 6 at my dc’s school have lessons from 9-4.30)

teacherspets · 31/08/2018 06:31

How long is the school day? 8.30-3.30 here but I know some go to 4.

Isitme13 8.30-3.30 in Prep but 4 in senior school.

It varies at my school.

Reception-yr 2 do 9-3.30 (go into classroom from 8.30)

Yrs 3-5 do 8.30-4 (in classroom by 8.30 to start some work eg guided reading, lessons from 9)

Yrs 6-8 do 8.20-4.30 (in classroom by 8.20 for registration and extra/extended work, lessons from 9)

That’s without all the extra stuff, eg orchestra practice, swim practice, choir etc - all from 8.15 if relevant.

My middle child is off to senior school, and will actually have a slightly shorter day than at her prep - lessons will be 9-415.

It all depends on how the day is organised, I guess.

There is a LOT of sport at her prep. Not in a pressured way (although those who are good get great team results), but they do a minimum of an hour a day in lessons, which I like.

I'm in a British school overseas and we have a minimum number of days in order to be a British school. It makes it difficult as due to weather and local customs we don't have much choice than to have a long summer holiday which leaves very few days for Christmas and Easter (and no half-terms).

I can't remember the exact minimum number - maybe it's online somewhere. We always go a couple over each year just in case a national or local Bank Holiday is announced later on.

I’m private and get 19 weeks off a year.

We have 6 hours of teaching time per day, which I think is longer than maintained schools.

I just googled it because I couldn’t remember if there was a figure. Between 160-170 is the answer that came back so 32-34ish weeks rather than 39 weeks which seems about right.
