% of Maths GCSEs getting a 9?

I teach primary year 6, and was interested to see that the Higher paper the grade 9 boundary was 84%. I’m sad enough to have thought “ohh that’s the same as the % mark for year 6s to get “greater depth” in their KS2 maths Sats (assuming 110 scaled score is greater depth of course).

Does anyone know what % of children were awarded a 9, just my idle interest wanting to compare this to the % of children getting greater depth! I’m trying to get staff members to think before they tell parents that their children are working at greater depth when they are just in the top chunk of children in their class.

3.6% of 16 year olds got a 9 in maths this year.

What percentage got greater depth?

The grade boundaries for the new GCSEs are not particularly high. The idea is that exams are more rigorous. I teach geography. I forget the grade 9 grade boundary but it's 70 something!! Really low but the questions are so tricky. I wish they were tricky as in challenging but actually they're tricky as in ambiguous and don't always match the mark scheme Hmm

noblegiraffe, this year I got 35% to “Greater depth” but I think the national figure is somewhere in the 20% - 25%. Just a good cohort.
Quite a lot of it is in the exam technique which is completely new to them of course!
One of the issues is it is easier to give “greater depth” in KS1 where it is teacher assessment, but of course in KS2 it is all on the three papers so no “interpretation “ required.

Hi noble. Have you got a link for that table? I'd like to see my subjects!

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2018 16:47

Don't worry : think I found it !

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2018 16:48

Nooooo... what I founs doesn't show breakdown by all grades...

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2018 16:50

Was it this one, piggy? You need to scroll down loads to get the grade by grade breakdown (if you restrict to 16 year olds it will take out resits - they drag the pass rate down loads)

My DS was 15 when he did his...what confusing tables!

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2018 19:56

August-born? That must surely count in the 16 stats.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2018 19:59

Late July but yes I guess so.
