Returning to work after mat leave

Just looking at possible dates for returning to work and I was wondering if you have to return on a Monday?

I'm due to go back round about Christmas and ideally I'd like to go back the day before the Christmas holidays start but I'm not sure if this is allowed or not? I just thought I'd check here to see if anybody knows before I run it past my ht?

Do you want to go into work on that day for a particular reason? You are well within your rights to return to work on the first day of the holiday. You don't have to go in on a day the school is open.

I don't know about day of the week. I don't remember reading that anywhere.

The NUT's Maternity Matters documents were always helpful.

I know lots of people who have returned on the first day of the summer holidays.

Day of the week doesn't matter. You don't need finish mat leave during term time. Why not start first day of the holidays instead?

Agree with pp's

Although I seem to recall if you go back in a Friday you get paid for the whole week. You would need to check that

I went back in a Friday and it was my day off so it really worked in my favour.

I returned to work three days before the start of the summer holidays, the first of the three being a Friday. As my union told me (many issues re: mat leave in my school) I can choose exactly when I leave and return to work and school can’t say anything about it Smile
