Naveloranges · 18/07/2018 00:53

Teach normal lessons.

goingthroughthemotionz · 18/07/2018 06:57

I am for year 10 naval. But the younger kids have finished the sow. Realistically anything done now isn’t going to be marked.

Piggywaspushed · 18/07/2018 07:03

It's not just the marking, is it? It is not going to be absorbed, listened to, or recalled! In addition, on any given day, a third of them are away : D of E ; holiday ; trips ; sports... it's draining.

Mine whined about doing a poem yesterday beause they wanted to do Kahoot, whih has beome the new 'can we watch a video?' annoyance and not necessarily any more educational!

dentydown · 18/07/2018 07:05

My lot have been taken outside for a mature scavenger hunt on the school field/playground. They were there for half a day!

Pythonesque · 18/07/2018 07:08

I remember my Latin teacher used to do bingo in the last lesson of every term. We always looked forward to it and it was how we learnt the numbers. Is there any way of adapting such a thing to your subject(s)?

dentydown · 18/07/2018 07:19

Mature - nature doh

motortroll · 18/07/2018 07:33

@Piggywaspushed and @Moonshine86 March of the penguins soooo good! I showed it to my year 8s and they loved it!! And it was relevant to topic so totally allowed!

Everytimeref · 18/07/2018 07:39

I teach my subject right up to the last day. My. Students moan "why are we still working not doing x y and z"

I reply that I did that last year and all you did was scream and shout and try and get of the room, because it's so borrrriiinnggg where now you are sat quietly working and the time is passing quickly.

TheFallenMadonna · 18/07/2018 07:42

I teach until the last lesson, parlty because I want them to learn stuff and mostly because it is way easier, in terms of preparation and behaviour management, for me to teach an actual lesson than do a "fun lesson".

Piggywaspushed · 18/07/2018 10:00

Am currently watching The Incredibles with my year 10s. They have sports day next and are all in PE kits. If you met them you'd understand...

Sorry not Sorry!

leccybill · 18/07/2018 10:07

Normal lessons right up until Tuesday end of day here. A week of end of year tests this week.
No trips, rewards, films, quizzes, posters.

Bloody academies Angry
I will dance out of there on Tues and into my lovely new job in a normal school!

Piggywaspushed · 18/07/2018 10:23

As they say in Capatian Fantastic ' Stick It To The Man!' leccy !

This one tends to give rise to rather a lively sessions but I've found it universally popular! Investigating the best design for a paper aeroplane. There are lots of examples, templates and videos online for different paper planes. Pupils could try out whether weights such as blutak or paperclips on the plane nose make a difference to the flight length; whether different sizes and weights of the paper used make an impact. They could try different types of up and down folds on the wings/tail.
Once they have decided on a best design they can sketch out some logos then decorate their plane (looking at plane logos past and present for inspiration). Finish off with a class competition on the playground of whose plane flies the farthest.

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2018 11:17

piggy you’re right about Kahoot being the new ‘can we watch a video’

No we can’t fucking play kahoot. For a start there’s 32 of you and we don’t even have enough laptops for one between two and no you can’t go on your sodding phones and secondly, I need to finish the SOW because you’re Y10 and if I don’t I’ll need to pick it up next year. And no, Kahoot is not a suitable way to deliver a topic that requires a bit more consideration than 60 seconds thinking time and a bash on a button. I want you to show your bloody working out for once.

That feels better.

In Australia the academic year runs end Jan to late Dec. We get over the doldrums by starting "2019" in the last two weeks of of 2018. It's all for real; not re-taught in 2019, holiday homework set and called in first lesson of 2019. It works.

The teachers all teach entirely new 2019 groups for those two weeks.

It is utterly fucking knackering for the teachers, but the pupils do pay attention. No end of term cant be arsed.

Apple23 · 18/07/2018 13:26

Supply a sheet of about 20-24 key facts about a topic that you want them to remember (don't get them to research - it's slower and you'll need to check that what they find is correct). Chn use these to create a (board or card) game - make, decorate, test with each other, try out on a younger year-group...

Piggywaspushed · 18/07/2018 17:14

We do that here too echt ! It's called rollover! Kids still do no bloddy work and piss off on holiday

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 19/07/2018 06:42

Toit99 you absolute beauty! That's my three Year 8 lessons planned for the day!

duckyfuzzz · 19/07/2018 06:43

OMG I finished on 4th July. You're all saints!!!

WowLookAtYou · 21/07/2018 17:46

I am in awe (I think) of anyone who can get their kids to do "business as usual" lessons at this stage of the year. Every day someone else is off, or back in; they're hot; we've no air-con or even fans and the quality of any work we do give is depressingly shite and makes me wonder why I've bothered this year.
We're babysitting, that's all.
