But I can't face phoning in sick. I know I'm pretty mentally unwell at the moment and while seeing a professional about it today she suggested going to see my gp about time off.
I had half a day off last week due to a stressful event at home and 2 days off before half term for a bug. I feel so guilty and they're going to be really pissed off but I can't help think I do need some space. I don't know what to do.

OP I am really feeling for you. Schools like this are not easy and this situation is not your fault. I can recommend this - they are very understanding and will put you in touch with someone to talk to who will know what you are talking about and help you be strong during this. www.educationsupportpartnership.org.uk/about-us/contact-us

PS message me if you want to - I have been in teaching up until a few months back.x

The HR meeting may actually go in your favour. In our school after a 10 day absence you actually have a meeting with an OT who seems to just want to make work easier on your return eg insisting school supports by reducing timetable etc

OP I wouldn’t go to any such meeting without a union rep.

If you are having suicidal thoughts you should be on sick leave. They cannot force you to have this meeting whilst on leave.

If you truly, truly believe that the school is a bad fit for you and will be utterly unwilling to support you then start making a plan for you. It’s ok for that plan to include maximising the amount of sick leave they pay you before you go. Use paid time to get well.

They have by the sounds of it failed in their duty of care to you. Feel no guilt.

Hey @cpjoli ! How are you doing today?
I've been signed off today for 2 weeks. It's tough. But easier than being at work. Hoping you have found some breathing space x

Please only go to this meeting if you are well enough. The same for being in work. Additionally, do not set foot in any meeting without an independent union rep there to support you and to know the law.
