Is anyone else completely kicking themselves today?

Same story every holiday!
I worked my butt off so I wouldn't have too much to do this half term...one lot of planning and a set of books that have been a bit neglected so will take a couple of hours to get up to date.

I was going to do it last weekend. Then I thought I'd do it early during the week.

And now here we are, Sunday, beautiful sunshine and I'm going to be working all bloody day!

FFS!! I'm like a lazy student, only it's 20 years later and I haven't grown out of my bad habits.

Anyone else? You can't all be uber-organised martyr types!

No martyring here!
I'm inside looking out at the sun and writing reports. DH has been to the beach, a craft market and Sainsbury. I am sad 😣

fruityb · 03/06/2018 12:20

Nope! I shook off the teacher guilt a while ago and now refuse to feel bad for not working in holidays! No other bloody profession does it!

Flyingpompom · 03/06/2018 12:23

I don't feel bad fruityb, just gutted I need to do it today! 😂

Yep. Was up until 12.30 last night doing reports & am now putting off going into work today to get stuff ready for tomorrow.

MaisyPops · 03/06/2018 12:27

No martyring here.
I've done the little bits I need to, a spot of revision and have 1 set of books to do this evening.
Reports can wait. I'm not spending my holidays on them.

fruityb · 03/06/2018 12:34

I’m looking at it as year 11 are done on Tuesday (for me); my a level class are on reading time as have sat their AS; and year 9 are doing a more laid back term as if I have to teach any more English language I will go crazy!!

Flyingpompom · 03/06/2018 12:36

My plan is to do 6 reports each evening this coming week....let's see, shall we? Grin

Fruityb, you're making me miss secondary teaching with your gained time!
I teach primary now and there seems to be a lot more pointless crap to do.

I specifically saved my work for today because I knew I’d get the Sunday feeling and have to prepare for school tomorrow anyway.

Might as well enjoy the whole half term and then have a work themed Sunday rather than spread out the stress!

Flyingpompom · 03/06/2018 12:44

I totally agree with your thinking, plateofbiscuits. It took me years to accept that I didn't need to stress all weekend, I could just relax on Saturday and do it on Sunday. I think I've spent too much time around organised people who like things done early...in my last school I always felt like the odd one out, doing everything last minute.

You really shouldn't be working at all in the holidays. I've stopped doing work at home completely and my teaching hasn't suffered. How did it get this bad? I don't know what the answer is but I'm commiserating.

Can you rehash previous years' planning? Twinkl has some good report statements. I have to submit half my reports by next Monday but I refuse to do them in the holidays. So I'll fit them in during PPA and maybe a couple of 6pm finishes next week.

The big stress here is writing moderation but I need the children with me to sort that so I'll tackle it in the week.

OpiningGambit · 03/06/2018 14:10

I did all my planning at the beginning of the holiday, in order to continue my proud tradition of having forgotten all about it by the time I have to teach it.

I do want to start writing my reports, though. I actually enjoy them!

Flyingpompom · 03/06/2018 14:19

Actually enjoy them? I mean, I can understand 'rather write reports than mark books' or something, but don't believe you actually like doing them on a sunny Sunday afternoon!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/06/2018 14:29

I did a bit on the first day and will do a bit later, but certainly won't be spending hours on anything. I rarely do much in the holidays.

OpiningGambit · 03/06/2018 14:33

I detest hot weather Grin

And I enjoy the reports! But then I'm in primary, so I only have 29. I start early so I just do a few a week. It gives me a chance to think about what the kids have accomplished over the year. Such a change since the meet-the-teacher day!

What I don't enjoy is my manager 'proofreading' them, and sending them back for edits. And then his reports all had the wrong genders and sentences which stopped in the middle!

PumpkinPie2016 · 03/06/2018 15:37

I'm not doing too bad as I tried to ensure I didn't have loads to do so I have done a couple of hours today and I am all set for tomorrow now!

Our Y11 are now on study leave, 7-9 have exams this week and next so mainly revision lessons. Y12 are revising for the end of year exam as we are not doing AS. Then just my Y10 but at quite a nice point with them.

34 days to go until summer and in that time I am out on 2 courses, 1 day is trip day and 1 day is our school charity walk so only 30 days of actual teaching Grin

noblegiraffe · 03/06/2018 16:48

Anyone want to mark my Y8 exams for me? I really must get around to it.

ladygracie · 03/06/2018 16:52

I have been in to work & got everything ready. Now just a bit of marking to do & 3 days literacy planning which won’t take long. I do like the theory of just making Sunday a work day as it’s not going to be fab anyway
